Kind of depends on the depth of your rifling, if it is deep[.013-.016 per side] a thicker heavier material like Canvas will help. Shallow [.005-.009] use a bigger ball.....even over bore size. My fifty [.500 bore] will shoot a .502 ball fine. just need a good 'thump' on the short starter! :wink:

Lapping did help my .73 cal barrel.....cutter chatter in one grove...................it would blow the patch on the first clean bore shot. I ordered some .024 canvas and lube and load a .725 ball for the first shot....tight fit.......all shots after can be loaded with pillow ticking.

Should work in small cals too!
