Original 1808 Contract Musket made by Pomeroy for the Connecticut State Militia Dated 1814. The .69 Cal barrel is 38-1/4" and was shortened past the bayonet lug at some point in it's service. I've seen a few examples of contract muskets shortened in this way but whether it was to remedy a gun with a damaged muzzle or for some other purpose such as mounted use is unknown. The bore is in great shape for it's age. Lock plate is marked for State of Connecticut "S. CT.". I've seen one other example of a War of 1812 period musket with "S B" carved into the buttstock, but have not been able to find the origin of these markings on these muskets. The cracks and subsequent repairs are also consistent with another Pomeroy musket which I'll include a link to for reference. This is a cool piece of US history and hard to find in it's original flintlock configuration.
