I am wondering what organizations the people here belong to. I'm usually not much of a joiner but recently became a probationary member of the American Mountain Men. Have been a past member of the NRA and the NMLRA. How about the rest of you?

I am an active member of the Bordeaux Creek Muzzleloaders and Buck Skinners, Nebraska Muzzle Loaders, and am presently Segundo for the High Plains Regional Rendezvous Ass.

I was going to join the TMA, but one of it's officers wit, wisdom, and help convinced me not to. Other than that, I have not considered joining anything for years.

Why join the NRA? Because it is the hardest-working, most powerful pro-2nd Amendment organization in the U.S. But that power will only remain as long as citizens like you and I care enough to support the NRA through membership.

The NRA was originally founded by former Union officers after the Civil War who were dismayed at the time it took to train urban area recruits to shoot accurately. So they wanted a pool of firearms-familiar civilians that could be called up for military duty in the case of another national emergency.

Today, the NRA provides safety and instructor training to thousands of kids and adults. The NRA continually works to educate the public on the value and meaning of the 2nd Amendment. The NRA also endeavors to educate us, the public, on where individual members of Congress stand on gun-related issues.

Mr. Rebel,
Do you happen to know if the AARP is still anti gun? In the past they have been strong supporters of Brady and her bunch, as I understand it. While their bylaws do not take a stand regarding this matter, the leadership is not elected and they do as they wish. Or at least they did in the past.
Or perhaps your comment was tongue in cheek, I suspect? Especially, if so, my apologies as no offense was meant. Just interested to know if their politics have changed?
Best Wishes

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying joining the NRA is bad. When people make statements like that I tend to ask why just to see if they know why they are doing it. Too many don't and parrot words thought up by others as the truth without examining them for themselves. The statement, We must all stick together, has been used by the manufacturers to keep men with good common sense from speaking out against things that are just plain wrong for some time now. Yet, in every firearms discussion someone will state, we must all stand together, and then they stand there smug like they really said something. I tend to ask them, Why? I choose not to support some groups and to support others. I very seldom join any of them. Last thing I joined was the American Rose Society, and that was a long time ago. You don't have to join to support certain groups, and if you do join, it does not absolve you of your need to think for yourself! The TMA is the only group that has had my real interest in a long time. Then one of them very smugly stated that production guns were welcome at the rondy on the ridge, and then said, well, we will let you shoot. Another just ripped me up one side and down the other including personal insults because I would not agree that period inlines should be allowed to compete in the shoots at the gatherings here where I live. I still support most of their ideas, and I might throw some money that way in support of the group. Joining is not a replacement for thought!

Windwalker, i hadn't heard that. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I was actually just joking about joining. It was just a reference to this gettin' old :bull:. Not all it's cracked up to be. ::

Yes, one year they spent a little more on gun control than they did on paying claims. That is nothing new for them tho. One year they decided to build a new headquarters and built a building that cost more than their member benefits for a year also.
