The proof shows 2019, but I wonder if it could have played a part? Rejected pieces that were warehoused for rework all of a sudden became "good enough" due to extreme demand and inexperienced workers?

Negative. I won't "out" them just yet, but I'll say that the vendor deals in muzzleloading exclusively, and has a name that might inspire one to wish he or she were "in the land of cotton"
You're not just a whistlin'...

I recall seeing a P53 and a 'Whitworth' rifle, both made by Pedersoli, within the last year on this forum with what could only be described as amateur fitting, especially around the nose-cap where even a degree out of line stands out like a sore thumb. Let's be frank about all this - there have to be guns made on days when QC goes down the pan for one reason or another. Even with a premier mass-produced product. It's when that lower standard becomes the norm that the company is really going to suffer from lost orders.

Here in UK we have just one importer of DP products, and they are up in the North of the country almost 200 miles from me. If I said that I was going to buy a nice new DP product the specialist guy up there would pull the stock to see what he had, not only so that a choice could be made, but also as an excuse to inspect it, if it hadn't already been checked out. I'd be amazed to learn that the new stock wasn't inspected on arrival. Remember that here in UK we pay about x1.36 more than you do, and a complaint would ruin a sale in both directions.

I was "way down yonder" a while back and ordered an Uberti 1860 Army - it was junk right out of the box. Tried to cock it and it felt like it had broken pieces in the action. Put it right back in the box, called customer service and got a UPS return label for nothing - had them process an refund. When you were looking for the Bess did you try Flintlocks, etc.?

Send it back and demand a return label. By all means, tell the highest guy in the company you can get to exactly why you are taking this action and send this person the photos (and more, if needed) you've shown us here. You shelled out a significant amount of cash for a firearm from a heretofore reputable name in the blackpowder sports. DON'T be put off or told anything to the contrary. YOU are in the right, and if you don't get satisfaction make no bones about spreading the bad word and photos on social media. Think about it. You really have no choice. Get that third rate junk out of your house and have it replaced with something you can be proud to own.

Lodgewood Manufacturing has a defarbing service which might be of use to you. They bring guns into historical correctness. In the process, they might be able to fix the other issues in this gun. Just a thought: You might be able to turn these deficiencies into actual improvements. My first concerns are that the lock and the barrel are meet the normal superb standards of Pedersoli. If those are excellent then this gun has lots of potential without returning it. Just a creative option. I've had nothing but great experiences with my Bess after more than a decade of ownership, but those Lodgewood improvements are very attractive.

SEND IT BACK, I would aso go on David's Facwbook page & tell him of your concerns. You should not pay return shipping on faulty goods

Send that Pedercrapi back for a full refund! That gun is a complete joke and while Pedersoli can and has made good guns, they are also terrible about quality control and you my friend got the very shortest end of the stick in that regard.

Then, use the $$$ from that expensive spaghetti abortion and buy a Track kit and send it to a WELL RESEARCHED builder to have completed. It might take a while but IT WILL BE WORTH IT. You’ll have a gun made with QUALITY American components and with an excellent lock and barrel, no asinine Italian literature plastered all over the barrel, the CORRECT details down to the wood finish and markings.

You’ll have an heirloom quality Bess that will make your heart soar like the hawk every time you pick it up or look at it. It will shoot properly and be an absolute joy all the way around, for not much more than the Pedercrapi you own now!

In recent years Pedersoli has simultaneously priced themselves close to entry level custom American guns but with plummeting quality. They are now asking more than ever for their wares despite the worksmanship being worse than ever before. I do not know what is going on with that company.

I’m sorry you are not happy with your purchase, I can’t help there, but don’t place your hopes in a Credit Card company refund. Increasingly the companies adopt a method like this: a very kind representative will contact you and listen with great sympathy. They will contact the maker/airline etc. They say this. You say that, you say this..... If you do get a refund from your credit card company please prove me wrong and let us know.
A reasoned phone call expressing your dissatisfaction would be my first move. Also maybe someone else could post photos of a Bess from Pedersoli that is a vast improvement on your own.

Well, Sir, G*d didn't make this piece of cr- sorry, less than perfect musket, but one of His children, 'Giuseppe Joe' did, and had a hard time getting bits to line up while he did it. It is a dead cert for a kit gun I once saw that looked like it had been assembled by Stevie Wonder. I know that I had been the recipient of this thing the mail van would not have yet disappeared out of sight before it would have been back on it. It's a monstrous fiasco of a gun from THE present-day builder of such things and is a disgrace to the name of Davide Pedersoli'

They need telling.
I agree GIUSEPPE JOE, is a real wood butcher! but he did a fair job on the second PINOCCHIO THOUGH? well maybe?

well there prices have gone up & quality has gone down. why is that? maybe because we keep buying there products?

remember the jobber / seller is not at fault but PEDERSOLI ,IS!

First to the original poster's problem. I have owned Pedersoli rifles, pistols, and shotguns for over 30 years and have never seen flaws like pictured in your post. I have emailed Pedersoli directly and gotten a response within two days, so you may try this approach. I do not know who the supplier was, but I would return the Bess for a refund. It seems a replacement would not suit you because you want a historically correct Bess which Pedersoli does not offer. If your only complaint was that it could not be made to be historically correct, then that's on you. But clearly it is the workmanship in this particular item that is at fault and NO ONE should accept an inferior product. Personally, I would not even entertain the idea of buying a new stock and fit the Pedersoli parts. You should not have to do that.

To respond to those who use the terms "Pedicrapi" and refer to their employees as "Guiseppe Joe" and other condescending and derogatory terms, you do the discussion no help. Without Pedersoli, Uberti, Chiappa, and others, the sport would not have come as far as it has. What sources do you have that prove they are "digging out seconds" to meet demand? Or is that just your opinion? Could it be that somewhere along the line, a bad one got through? Can we discuss this without condemning the entire company?

I am an ffl who buys wholesale from vendors, Flintlocks, Etc. for one, and I examine every item I sell as I receive it from the supplier. If I saw your example, it would never have shipped. I know large companies do not examine every item they ship. That's why you have the right to send it back on their dime. Since we do not know where you got it from, I will not venture a further opinion. Deal with the seller.

Hi VA Guy

Sad to read your post. Something wrong seems to happen to Pedersoli, lately this is not the first complain about this italian maker I've heard to. These weapons definitely seem not to worth what they cost.

Several 1857 Württembergischen rifles purchased here in Spain (mine included) has also some issues, due basically to using some kind of soft wood (maybe a cheap walnut) and a very low quality control check. I think you should write back a formal complain to Pedersoli, as we have made. And maybe you'll be lucky enougth to get back and explanation.

Yes, send it back. I have a Pedersoli Whitworth and a Tryon. The fit and finish of the Whitworth is very nice for a production gun. Some of the inletting on the Tryon leaves a little to be desired! It's not terrible but not finished like the Whitworth. Ya never know.

Send it back, for what they charge it has to be right. If you can get your money get a USA builder!

Beware of some anti 2a CC companies looking for an excuse.

Actually it doesn't look all that bad to me. Except for the the hideous wood filler around the pinholes. That in and of itself is 100% unacceptable. the rest of the flaws quite frankly don't look all that bad. Except for the wood filler, the rest of the gun looks a lot better then the one I bought and retuned over the summer. These are factory guns, not carefully made customs. So if it was mine I would be returning because of the horrid wood filler issue. Pedersoli seems to be turning out some junkers lately. Yours may have covid, but mine was made in 2016 if I recall correctly. Where did you buy it?
