Was looking at a roof for a former client of my brothers. He lives in a log cabin that dates from the 1770! Over the mantel this was hanging. Sorry forgot to take pics of the whole gun. It was a smooth bore.
What can you tell me?

Modern replica, as the Bill Large barrel dates to the 1970s or later, see link below.

He was legendary for his barrel making and his personality. He was also one of the charter members of the NMLRA. Bill large passed away in 1985 at age 78.

I myself am not schooled enough in longrifle designs to ascertain exactly what the school is, just from the few pictures posted. But I do love the poured pewter chevron muzzle cap treatment!

Thank you for the link! Super helpful!

Tom Hall is the builder. Highly respected for quality and historically accurate guns. That one is likely a copy of a gun of the period.
The 4 J's are a later Bill Large barrel (was told he added a J for every daughter) maybe the mid-1980s.
More pieces fitting together!!

I thought it was awesome that they used a US coin for the blade of the front site!!
