I may be wrong, but I recall Cabelas usually had a black powder rifle sale after Christmas. That coincides with the PA flintlock season so I was always tempted to get one. So I have some gift cards saved up and I was waiting on a sale. I don't need it ASAP, so 100 off for waiting on a sale seems prudent.
I think they look nice, and they are 7.2 pounds, so on paper they look like a fit for deer season around here. I appreciate the comment that I may want to hold one before buying. With the free shipping they are offering, I was tempted to pay 650 plus tax delivered. But now I think I'll try to find a day for the 100+ mile one way journey to hold one to my shoulder. Dixons is close, and so is a really good butcher shop. So I can hit 3 stores to make a day of it.
I also have the option of a second generation custom builder a few miles away. He is building my good friend a rifle, and am impressed with his work. Too bad he doesn't take gift cards, I have 900.00 saved up. I am also thinking about selling those cards and just starting a build.
