If you want real black, you can order it on line from several distributors. I suggest going in with some of your buddies to get a bulk shipment. Many places offer free shipping and hazmat if you order 25# or more. I get my powder from the Maine Powder House. With a 25# order and free shipping the cost per pound comes to around $18 for goex. More for Swiss.

Define "our area." What part of New England are you in?
I buy real black powder at Autumn Gun Works in Goshen, CT. and at Trader John's Gun Shop in Winchester, NH.

What’s a good substitute depends on what you are shooting it in. There aren’t any good subs for real black in a flintlock, Pyrodex and 777 both work pretty well in sidelocks and inlines, BH209 works great in inlines that are suitable for it.

Black powder is getting hard to get in our area

At one time powder was difficult to procure at most places. Some shops had new old stock, but smoke poles weren't popular. A few of us did and had somewhat success. Trying to stay out of trouble here ( made our own). I understand this sort of discussion is not tolerated on this site, so, I'll just say it isn't rocket science.

When living in Massachusetts, it seems like NOTHING gun related can be shipped to you.

Thank you all for your contact info. Will try and stay with Black powder before I switch to substation!,,!,,,,!,

I in Kecksburg Pa

Federal Firearms in Oakdale, Pa had some 3F until yesterday. Sorry bout that.
They still have a can of 1F if that interests you.
They don’t plan on getting any more until “next season “, whatever that means.

Maybe if they get enough calls asking for them to restock they will. They just don’t know that there is a market.

Graf's and sons They have all the powder you want.
The house brand is now made by Goex and will save you a lot of money.
In Mexico Mo? While I enjoy an occasional road trip, I think that is a bit of a hike for powder.

Mine is being delivered tomorrow.:)

I read about Graf,s powder on here last winter but I forget what the difference is between Goex and Graf.I mean the refinement process I don,t think is identical as Goex.I,ve heard it is great powder and worth the savings but I think their is somethin different than the label.Re-educate me on this.
