    slings for a fowler

When I looped a sling around the barrel of my fowler it interfered with my sighting down the barrel so that I couldn't hit anything. Is there any period correct way to fasten a sling underneath the barrel?

    Sights on "fowler" barrel??

I think the brass sight came with the kit, but couldn't remember for sure, so I put them both in the box. They are both a front sight for a fowler and either one would be period correct to use.

    Ballistics Chart?

All I really wanted was a listing of muzzle velocity, ball weight, and foot-pounds of energy for some common loads from those caliber of pistols and rifles. There are web sites such as this www.beartoothbullets.com/rescources/index.htm that I can use calculate foot-pounds of energy, if I have...

    Ballistics Chart?

I want to compare the ballistics of 32 cal, 36 cal, 40 cal, 45 cal muzzleloaders shooting PRB with traditional loads, not magnum loads. Both rifles and pistols. Is there a web page anywhere with this information?

Anyone Have a Pedersoli Howdah ?

I'd like to keep one loaded with #4 buckshot in my vehicle to use for self defense. At close range it would be a lot more powerful and lethal than several shots from my snub nose revolver. And it would be a lot easier to hit my target with.

    Napoleon's Double Fowler

Awesome. Must be one of the most beautiful shotguns ever made. Why do the "gold-plated flashpans" look like steel instead of gold color?

    French Locks?

Okay, I was a little hasty in posting the above. After re-reading the French Fusils thread and following the link, I understand better. Thank's for all the great information. I was toying with the idea of some day building a 17th century French blunderbuss, but haven't been able to find any...

    French Locks?

Please forgive my ignorance. Can someone please explain why the French Type C fusil lock that TOW sells is not historicly correct for a 17th century French gun? I have searched the Internet looking for examples of original 17th century French flintlocks and haven't found many.

powder in chamber how long can you leave it

I used to have a 50 cal percussion pistol that I kept loaded with black powder for months at a time and it always fired okay and I never had any pitting in the barrel. I always started out with a clean dry barrel and used powder that was completly dry and I had a tight fitting cap. When deer...

    BEARS IN ALASKA

I would want to use a very large bore gun if hunting grizzly bear with PRB. Large bore double rifles have always been popular for hunting very dagerous game because you have a quick second shot. I would love to someday hunt an Alaskan brown bear with a flint double rifle like the one shown in...

What can we use after lead

Please forgive me if I'm getting off topic. I've been thinking about using a corner of my Dad's cow pasture as a place for me to practice shooting clay pigeons. There's no chance of my shooting a cow, but I thought with a lot of lead pellets on the ground the grass might absorb the lead and the...

    Does Bore Size Matter?

I think the advantage of useing a larger bore gun is so you can get a better pattern when shooting a larger volume of shot. It's been my experience that a one ounce load in a 20 ga kills just fine, so I don't see the point in using a larger size gun shooting a heavier load. It makes makes a...

    Double Barrel Shotgun

Can you please tell me where a person should look for a good deal on a high quality original British made double barrel ML shotgun? Regular gun shows? Online gun auctions? Or?

    TVM's ???

Toni, I bought this gun from an Internet web site that sold guns online and I don't remember their name and I don't think they are in business anymore. The gun was brand new and the barrel is signed B Jurner or maybe it's B Turner. I really don't know if this gun is typical of the guns your...

    TVM's ???

This is the only fowler I have ever shot, but I have shot many different types of modern shotguns and rifles and percussion rifles and many of them kicked a lot harder than my fowler, but never had any other gun bruise my cheekbone. I don't know anyone else around here that shoots a fowler to...

    TVM's ???

18 months ago I bought one of their 20 ga fowlers with 42" barrel and I don't like it at all. It always bruses my cheek no matter how much I try to adjust to it. The only gun I have ever shot that does that, and I've shot a lot of guns. I have used it a lot for hunting because it's the only...

Surely miss the squirrel hunting days.

A few days ago I took my 20 ga fowler out to the woods. It was one of the most enjoyable days I have had in a long time. I love bird hunting but there is something special about stalking through the woods with my flintlock fowler. I saw one rabbit, seven deer, five pheasants, six squirrels, and...

    What size touchhole?

Today I loaded the gun with the frizen closed and then thumped the butt of the gun on the ground a few times to see if that would shake some powder out, but I found no powder in the pan. I'm sure 3F would leak through the hole, but with 2F this large touch hole works great for me.
