    GPR Sling Ideas....

Surely not PC, but I hunt with a safari type sling from Booniepacker on my 54.

Do those spinning Jags really work?

I have a couple of very well made range rods from J.W. Dewey that allow the entire rod to swivel. Works great.

Patch after 50 shots with no wiping

Just FYI, some info I found while looking for a formula for Hoppes. SOME TIPS ON CLEANING AND LUBRICATING FIREARMS Copyright (c) 1998-2000 David S. Markowitz "Besides commercial and home brew powder solvents, you can use several products easily available at auto parts and hardware stores for...

I'd also appreciate a detailed explanation of ingredient purpose.

    Trigger Pull length

For me, the drop at heel/comb might be more important than LOP. My TC Hawkens are too straight. I spend too much time trying to get the sites lined up, and the stock smacks my cheek if I'm not careful when shooting. How would I determine an exact drop at comb/heel that would be right for me?

    Public Shooting Range--Estes Park?

Byers Canyon is a great public range a bit west of the park between Hot Sulphur Springs and Parshall. The Buckhorn Skinners club (http://www.buckhornskinners.com) has a club shoot on Sept. 17 at their range south of Masonville east of the park. I'm sure they would be open to a visitor.

    Stain question

I have a unfinished walnut stock I'd like to notice some orange color in after finishing. Not screaming orange, just something subtle. Mike Brooks has mentioned "Jim Klien's" orange stain, but I have not been able to locate a source. Any suggestions?

    The Great Powder Test:

"What I'm hoping to prove(?) is how much/little difference there is between firing consistant loads vs mixed loads since it makes a huge difference to the cartridge guys." Thanks for being nice clarifying my initial poor read of your test description. Of course that is why the first ounce was...

    The Great Powder Test:

Old Ironsights, A question. Since most of us shoot what comes out of the can without sifting out the fines, why are you not recombining your test powder so that further testing reflects what comes out of the can and not your more perfect sifted granulation? I, obviously, am curious about the...

    The Great Powder Test:

Interesting info, but the scientist in me wonders how the data would change if you measured more than one can for each type of blackpowder. Averages with a low standard deviation provide the most confidence in the results. :snore: That said, from a sample of 1, it looks like I should try...

    25 aniversary hawken

Saw an ebay split barrel/stock auction for a TC Hawken Cougar 25th anniversary edition recently that was removed before the auction ended. The Cougar stock looked like an upgrade from the standard walnut TC Hawken stock. The stock was at about $165 that last time I looked before it was...

    Big game pressure cooking?

Not really a camp cooking subject, but I was wondering if anyone has a recipe or two for pressure-cooking big game. Some of the boys at work used a pressure-cooker for making the St. Paddy's day corned beef and it turned out really tender. I took the idea home, threw some venison and marinade...

    tarnishing copper

I have a Cash capper made of copper and it tarnished after the first use at the range. My guess is that wiping your flask with a used swab patch would have the same tarnishing effect as for brass.

    Cabela's "Update"

"Guess what it had a load in it" I recently got an old, beat up smoothbore that had been in the cellar of the house I grew up in for the past 45 years and in the house that my mom grew up in for 40 years before that. My mom's brothers played with is as a toy as did I growing up. Now that I...

    First Organized ML shoot

It does depend on the folks shooting doesn't it? The club I shoot with has two shoots per month. One is a fun shoot with most wearing their mountain man garb and not caring much about where they hit the target. The other shoot is much more organized with the tackle box shooters developing...
