    Loading stand

Nice, we added a compartment to the base of our prototype after the pictures were took. It’s just a working model at this point and there are other details that may be incorporated on the next one.

    Loading stand

I’ve never had one or used a stand of any type. It looked like a nice project and my buddy was all in to build a couple. I’ve seen people use a mallet to load with, which puzzles me, and wonder if that’s how stocks are broke? I always have loaded by hand, generally on horse back at a full run. 🙄

    Loading stand

My buddy and I have started on a pistol loading stand prototype. The pine will serve to sort out ideas then we’ll make nicer ones out of walnut. It needs to work with both single shot and large or small revolvers. A few more details to work out yet but seems useful. IMG_0567 by Oliver Sudden, on...

    Elk calling

I used a Houchy Momma one year with storybook results. I moved towards some distant bugling paying attention to the wind. At around hundred yards out I sat down and gave two cow calls then went silent. Minutes later a nice bull came into about forty yards.

    TC at the cabin

I had finished detailing a buddy’s TC Hawken and we took it up to the cabin for a test shot or two. Hanging over the door during a break I tryed to get a picture but lightning wasn’t very good. The snow drifts are still around up there. IMG_0082 by Oliver Sudden, on Flickr IMG_0077 by Oliver...

Yes, the GPR is a good candidate for improving. IMG_1292 by Oliver Sudden, on Flickr

    I found 5 of Dad's C&B Revolvers...

I agree olive oil is for food, notice on the bottle the expiration date. Gun oils and grease is better and the revolvers will work perfectly with them.

Large Siler Lock Jaws to Frizzen Alignment

Typical of a lock that was put together with the least amount of work. Note the parting lines of the mold and as cast surfaces. If it sparks and throws to the pan then it has met the assemblers goal, a lock that has twisted parts can still work well enough. It takes more time (money) to build a...

How do you stabilise your rifle for load testing/sighting in?

Sand bags front and rear, but every bit as important is to get a comfortable natural position. You can’t be straining to get on target.

Walnut dye/ syrup and curly maple.

Walnut hulls crushed and simmered in water will only slightly tint wood. It does add something that acid stain reacts to and gives a richer color.

    Maintaining stock with carving ?

Have you noticed that water mix’s well with Ballistol? Spread some out on a rag and put a drop of water on it.

    Maintaining stock with carving ?

I don’t find it necessary to do anything but wipe them dry. I don’t use wax either as the finish does the work. Linseed oil wouldn’t work as well has been proven and using any kind of grease isn’t for me.

    Question About Lighting

Three sets of double tube fixtures two led fixtures and two incandescent bulbs each controlled separately. And one led with magnifying glass on a boom. Sometimes it is beneficial to adjust the lights to make shadows to better show the contour of the work and expose scratches. Then take it...
