need LONG short starter/ramrod for pistol

I have a Jim Chambers Kentucky flintock pistol. It has a 13" barrel, so I can't use the pistol short starter/ramrods that they have on Track of the Wolf becuase their longest one is only 10 3/4 inches long. I understand that their short starter/ramrods were made by Treso Products. But I tried...

    Cleaning my Flintlock Rifle

If you leave the barrel on when you clean with water, is there danger of getting water inside the stock, under the barrel which will eventually cause water damage? The advantage of taking off the barrel is that you can really flush it with water and not have to worry about the stock damage.

    Cleaning my Flintlock Rifle

I'm a new flinter and I have found that if you ask 20 different flinters how to clean a rifle, you will get 20 different answers. I have been using a solvent-only approach because my first mentor says it's impossible to get the barrel dry if you use water and you always get some rust...

As usual, thanks for the tips guys! I am looking forward to a nice dry day where I can try out my "new" pan and touch hole to see how the gun fires compared to my "old" alignment. As you can tell from the pics that I posted, it looks like it should help a lot. Unfortunately, the wet weather...

Thanks roundball ... Any feedback regarding the dampness? could that have been part of the cause of my flash in the pans? I even noticed that I was having trouble pouring powder out of my horn after a couple hours. I left it unplugged the whole time I was at the range. Should I plug it...

OK, I went to the range yesterday. I'd like to say that I had no "flash in the pan" problems, but unfortunately, I did. :( Now, I have to point out that it was a cold, wet day in Seattle (imagine that!). I was under cover at the gun range, but it rained all day so there was a LOT of moisture...

UPDATE: I took my Traditions rifle to a gunsmith at the local muzzleloading shop (35 miles away) and he is working on it now. Unlike the folks at Traditions, he immediately recognized that the touch hole was WAY out of alignment. I pick up the rifle this afternoon and I'm taking it to the...

OK .. I went to the range for a couple hours today and made a very conscious effort to only put the priming powder on the right half of the pan, far away from the touch hole. That seemed to do the trick. I still had a couple "flash in the pans" but nothing like the problems I was having...

Target load for .50 caliber 1.66 twist Penn. Rifle

I have .50 caliber Traditions Pennsylvania Rifle that I use strictly for target and casual pleasure shooting, I am not a hunter. I have used 40 and 50 grain loads, but I don't know how to determine what is the "best" load, so I'd like some input. What size load would you recommend for general...

Ok guys, hold onto your hats ... I emailed the pics I posted above to Traditions and told them I wanted to send my rifle back to the have misalignment of the touch hole fixed and this is the response I received today: "The touch hole lines up perfectly. Don't look at the whole silver touch...

UPDATE: Smaller Photos, easier to download I finally had time to make the photos a lot smaller than the original .jpg files from the camera. So for those of you with slow Internet connections who may have been scared off by the massive file size of my original pics, here are the same photos in...

Hey Ray, I'd love to help you out, but I'm not a hunter, just a target shooter. Sorry! However as I lifelong resident of the state I can tell you that the Fall weather is not as bad as you might think. Plenty of overcast days, but the rain here tends to dizzle, not pour like other parts of...

Regarding ignition problems, I noticed that sometimes there is a considerable delay between the flash and the main charge ignition, while other times there is very little delay at all. Is this due to the misalignment of of the touch hole, or caused by something else? I realize this may be a...
