I may have a serious problem with my GPR.

Hello Mr. Mad Monk. It's been quite a while. Scott/Ne

    lyman .50 cal

if you know anyone who has them, give Lee REAL bullets a try. My .54 Lyman GPR loves them.

Why do you use real BP?

When I could get it, it was way cheaper than the substitute. I don't shoot near as much now cause I can't afford to. I can't get a case order and don't have anyone around that shoots Scheutzen or Elephant powder. Those are my preferences, read MY preferences. I've shot goex and don't care for...

    Sighting In

I sight in to shoot about dead on at 75 yards. That way my drop to 100 yards is about 2" and I average about 1" high at 75. Course I hit the 25 yard targets and post one of my own at about 12 yards. I find it easier to hold under at closer ranges, it allows me to still see what the deer is...

    using the pyramid tent

    1. Can't say, but you either see straight seam or tipi style. Straight seam is what I see most of by a vast majority. 2. absolutely. When used in conjunction with a ground cloth, it'll keep out drafts, critters and snow (rain) to some extent. 3. I've had it up in gusts as high as 70 mph and...

    Antler Handle

I had some Acraglass bedding compound. I mixed in the black dye that came with it and it looked really close pitch. Maybe the same would work with epoxy. :results:

    Sunday Hunting?

Nebraska does, and has for as long as I can remember.

    Preventing barrel rust

Here's what I do after browning a barrel. After my last carding (I use a dicel wheel), I give it a good rinsing with HOT water and baking soda. I mean HOT.. After that, I rub it liberally with beeswax to seal it. After each cleaning, I rub it down liberally (lock stock and barrel, and leather...

    Jeff Tanner moulds

I just did a run a few nights ago have no problems at all. I had a mould for a 12 ga. smoothbore I used to have and ever ball seemed to come out perfectly round. :m2c:

    Blaze Orange Requirements

Nebraska requires 400 sq in. on the head, chest and back. I wash my stuff in a UV killer and it does work. Last year I had a doe lay down about 7 - 10 yards from me, and she looked right at me several times. Better save than sorry... Scott/Ne

    removing inletting black

I quit using the inletting black. WAY too messy. I needed a body-bib. I went to using candle soot. Cleans up with denatured alchohol.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh nose nuggets.... 'scuse me while I go slam my head in a drawer. :master:  boy do I feel like a dope...the thought never crossed my mind...

    Elephant Powder

heck..I've had bad batches of both. I break out the trusty cotton tube sock and clean the graphite out and shazam, works fine. I REALLY want to try the Schuetzen..and Swiss. Closest dealer here in Nebraska is about 3+ hours north. He's close to major campgrounds so it'll be a long weekend...

    Coning Tool

I've done a .36, 3 .50's and 2 .54's with Joe's coning tools. I only keep a short starter around now in case I pick up a new rifle and can't wait to cone it before I shoot it. Not having my son's .54 coned last year cost me a 2nd deer that came into view almost immediately after I shot the first...

    DEER SEASON!

With a special area tag in Nebraska (the tax me state), we can hunt the firearm season, the December muzzleloader and the January late season (1st - 15th). Scott

patch lube for below freezing weather

I've used Lehigh in the past and had no problems with it freezing in the barrel. Here in Nebraska, December can be warm or incredibly cold. About 2 years ago, I switched to bear fat/beeswax. I have a batch I keep frozen for winter use that has less beeswax, and my summer batch just has more...

Back to the range with my GPR

Nick, .530 Hornaday roundballs (I also cast my own out of a Jeff Tanner mould). For plinking, I use 60 grns 3f 777 (70 grns 3f Elephant). I'll up it to 80 grns for hunting. :results:

Back to the range with my GPR

Odd. I've used bear fat, Lehigh lube, and my own mix of murphy's/alcohol/pine sol and all have shot the same. I use cotton drill as a patch material (stuff that's in the pocket of your jeans). I get it at JoAnne's fabrics. 40# cotton drill. It has an extremely tight weave. I used it in the .50...

    building a 2 bore

2 bore??? That's a proximity weapon. All you have to do is get the ball close to an animal's head (be it deer, elk, moose, bear..etc) and it will suck their brains right out of their ears... :haha:
