    Pine nuts

Fresh from northern Nevada Soak in salt brine for about an hour then roast at 325F for about an hour, stirring occasionally. Easy and highly addicting!

    Damascus patch knife

I found this great hand forged neck knife with a 3.3 inch blade. It doubles as a fire starter, throws a great spark. And it fits perfectly in the neck knife sheath from The Leatherman.

    Colonial Gunsmithing

I know this has been discussed before but it's such a great video here it is again. Meet Wallace Gustler... bAzJOULyx5c

    Powder drum question

Playing around with and cleaning my new rifle I noticed my powder drum was loose. Not flopping around loose but it doesn't fully seat until the nipple is a few degrees past square with the hammer. So when it is square with the hammer it can turn by hand. Is this normal? If not, what's the fix...

    Shameless gloat

I just got my new to me .40 mountain poorboy yesterday. Built by Tom Faux with a maple stock, Green Mountain barrel, Siler lock and iron hardware. Can't wait to see what she can do!

40 caliber patch and ball question

I just bought a 40 caliber percussion rifle with a Green Mountain barrel. For those of you who shoot 40's, what size ball and what patch thickness are you using? This will be a target rifle with occasional pest control duty.

Bore a .54 Great Plains Rifle to .62 smoothy?

I'm kicking around the idea. Is it even doable or even worthwhile with a 32" barrel? And can anybody recommend a Smith to do it?

    Spanish Tower Pistol?

I have an opportunity to buy this. The owner inherited it and is pretty much completely cluless as to what it is. He thinks it's a reproduction. Can anybody identify this and give me a ballpark idea of what it's worth? There is a stamp across the barrel that says "Spain". Other than that what...

New (to me) Uberti Santa Fe Hawken .54

I picked this up not long ago after ogling it for weeks but holding off because I prefer to shoot long guns left handed. And the fact that it is actually a .53 bore. But the price came down to where I just couldn't resist so I bought it. Fact is, I reeealy like this rifle. It shoulders great...

    Lead casting questions

I'm thinking about casting. Never done it before. I have a line on some lead locally, it's range lead in ingots with a stated hardness of 10.1 and it's going for $1.40/lb. Is this stuff worth buying for muzzleloader and C&B revolver round balls? Conicals like a plains bullet too? Is the price...

    Traditions .50 Kentucky Pistol? Questions...

I picked up a .50 Kentucky pistol that was represented as "about 5 years old but like new and never fired". That part appears to be true. It's a really nice piece. Good metal, fit and finish, and a nice piece of what appears to be maple with an almost burl look on the left side. Here's where it...

    First time shooting my GPR

Well after doing a bunch of work on my new (to me) Lyman GPR I took it out and shot it today. This is my very first black powder gun, I've never shot anything BP before today and I had a blast! As for the work I did, I lapped the barrel, I installed a White Lightnin flash hole liner, and I...

    Touch hole liners compared

When I set out out to look for a touch hole liner upgrade for my Lyman GPR I found lot's of great info and descriptions but few actual pictures and none of the inside cone. So here they are. Left to right: White Lightnin' 5/16x32, RMC 1/4x26, Stock Lyman 6m x.7 Here's the touch hole...

Which powder for .54 Lyman GPR?

I'm sure this has been discussed to death and I apologize for asking again but I'm fixing to put in a powder order. I'm thinking I'll stick with Goex but I'm not sure if 2f or 3f is the way to go. I have two barrels, a GPR and a GP Hunter. So what are you Lyman guys shooting? Thanks for any...
