    Kentucky Kit Considerations

I'm working a Traditions Kentucky kit right now, my frustration with fit just went out the window. Have you considered a contrasting hardwood spacer instead of the brass spacer in the stock? This is my fallback plan.

Everything showed up today. The butt plate is not a perfect match, but I sort of expected that. The rifle looks like a kit from the mid 80's. Luckily I have files, chisels, sand paper, and a small bit of talent for wood working. Very small. Now to convince the wife I need the Kentucky rifle...

    Deer Creek Products

Out of curiosity I placed a small order for some parts and accessories. According to the email, it should arrive later today. The site store reads like a clearance sale, listing number of the particular item available. I ordered a new buttplate for the injured flintlock, with the intent of using...

It doesn't matter, I need a stock with a one inch channel, they only have the 15/16 channel.

    Deer Creek Products

I have been trying to raise them on the phone for a few days now, and the line is always busy. Would you recommend going ahead with an online purchase? My grandson convinced me to buy a relative's wallhanging CVA that I knew was at one time a good shooter, and on the first outing, my grandson...

    Pa Flintlock Season?

The regulations changed in the late 90's if my memory is correct. I used to use my brother's T/C Hawkens, because it was a flinter, and then it was limited to iron sights and PRB. Somewhere near or before the turn of the century it changed. I know, because the lady is was dating bought me a...

    Hickory for a stock?

I did. I squared a few prices up with a shingle froe, and put them on a shelf near the dryer. She asked what stunk so I handed her a chunk, she sniffed it, and said "Get rid of it, it smells like Sh**!" Oddly enough, she loves hickory smoked barbecue :idunno:

    carving tools

The good Colonel is correct. Go to Harbor Freight, get an inexpensive set of carving tools, and learn to sharpen them. Making a mistake on a bevel will hurt less on a tool that cost less than a car battery. And if they hold an edge well, which sometimes happens with HF tools, you saved a ton of...

    Hickory for a stock?

Thanks for the input. I brought a few chunks in to the woodshop out of the woodpile, and after a week or so they have checked beyond useability for anything other than kindling. They also made the shop smell like dog poop to the wife, so I am pretty much done with this line of experimenting.

    Hickory for a stock?

I have a great straight grained 4-5 foot long trunk section of hickory that was destined for the woodstove, but a piece like that does not show up all the time. Would hickory be a good choice for stock material?

    New Flintlock Hunter Here

Technically, it is rocket science. After all, rockets and bullets are both propelled by controlled explosions. :rotf:

    Pedersoli Queen Anne ?

It depends on how you define straight. I like shooting mine,(I find that loading it with a piece of wire in the touchhole improves ignition reliability) however, at more than ten yards, even getting mine on paper is a gamble. I usually end up shooting very low, but that is probably a...

    Flintlock Help in PA

I have never been to Dixon's---Fort Chambers is way closer to me. Great service there too.

No dry ball but i did do this-

I feel your pain. Somewhere, behind my old house, there is a half a dozen from my pistol. One cleaning, after nightfall, on the porch, talking with friends, and a brainfart later, I had an excuse to go to my favorite BP store.

I just finished shooting up a can I found in storage, I believe I stored it close to twenty years ago, it worked fine.

Haz mat fee for cannon fuse?

I think they converted model rockets to electric ignition. I never see fuse with the motors in the stores anymore. Now you have me wanting to build a model rocket. If only my grandson were a little older....

    Where to go near Gettysburg

As for things to see, a 15 minute drive west of town on will take you to the Mary Jemison(sp) site, it is just a marker but still it is something to see. Further west is the Thadeus Stevens blacksmith shop, and Caledonia State Park, great hiking, and fishing, and way cooler in temperature in...

    Where to go near Gettysburg

Try Redding's Hardware right in town. You never know what you may find in there. There is a shop just south of Gettysburg in Taneytown Md, just run 194 south, cross the state line, go through the light in Taneytown, and at the bottom of the hill they are on the right. Lock, Stock and Barrel...
