    flintlock hunting

I shot a deer a few years ago with a T/C Hawken flintlock. Got a rabbit last year with a Tulle flintlock. Is this the place to post? graybeard

    Pipe Tomahawk Smoking?

How about smoking? Has anyone actually smoked tobacco in one of those metal bowls? graybeard

    Brass and bronze

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between bronze and brass? I thought they both were mixtures of copper and tin. Is an ancient Greek warrior's sword made of the same stuff as a Confederate revolver frame? Thanks, graybeard

    India gun

I've read a lot of opinions about guns made in India. I know the concensus is that they are poor quality. But I wanted a musket, flintlock, to use on grouse, squirrels, rabbits, turkeys and deer. The price of a custom-made gun was out of reach for a frugal old man like me. Actually, I never...

    unreal movies

After the ball game last night I started watching a film supposedly based on Hugh Glass. The actor shot an elk with a flintlock, reloaded by pouring some powder down the barrel right from the horn, put a ball in his mouth for a second, then dropped it down the barrel, banged the rifle butt on...

    Clean a clay pipe?

Does anyone know how to clean a clay pipe? I've got a couple I have smoked until they are black with tobacco tar seeping through the clay at the bowl and part way up the stem. Very messy. :( Presumably people used to clean them. Thanks, graybeard

    possum recipe

Does anyone have a recipe for possum? Sure could use a couple, including how to prepare the critter. I hope they eat better than they look. graybeard

    wool blankets

The cheaper than dirt catalogue has supposedly 100percent wool blankets for less than $10. Anyone try them? Seems like they'd make good camp blankets and be fairly PC. thanks, graybeard.

    non-persona

I hope this doesn't get me kicked off the forum, but I have no persona. I'm just an old timer who is comfortable in the woods and likes to shoot a flintlock. I sometimes carry the flinter and a replica of an 1860 Army Colt, which certainly isn't period correct. At age 72 I no longer roll up...

    Camp coffee

Can anyone give me a rule of thumb for the amount of ground coffee per, say 12 ounces of water, or per pint, or something useful, when just boiling the coffee over a fire? Any other hints? I seem to remember some tips about egg shells and cold water, but can't remember the details. Thanks...

    Kerry

Does anyone know how Sen. Kerry stands on gun control. Is he a hunter? Fisherman? He comes from a state that hates guns. Graybeatrd

    Cleaning

I just spent about an hour and countless patches trying to get a CVA .45-caliber Kentucky clean. I've done this over and over. After what seems like a lot of work, the patches still are gray. If I quit, give the barrel a swipe with T/C's Butter Bore, and put it away, I'll have rust the next...
