    New Englander question

That is exactly the reason I wanted to know about the fouling on the inside of the lock. On other TC models it's no big deal to remove the lock, just remove the lock screw. The tang on a new englander has a notch that goes over the lock plate. I don't want to remove the tang every time I clean...

    New Englander question

I recently bought a TC new englander 12 ga. and I am wanting to know if fouling gets behind the lock plate. The design is little different than my renegade. Do I need to remove the lock and clean the inside after every shooting session? I would appreciate any advice from new englander owners.

What punch are you guys using for your patches?

Just wondering if you have the drill press running (turning), or just have the hole saw held in the chuck? I have tried it with the drill press off, but can't get enough leverage to cut. Maybe my cutter is not sharp enough.

    Patterned my New Englander today

I tried .125 over powder wads, plastic AA wads, and wool wonder wads at the range today. I was shooting my New Englander with a modified choke. I was using 70 grains of RS pyrodex and 1 1/8 oz. of #6 shot. The wool wonder wads gave the best pattern by a large margin(all the shot was well...

how to make shot wads ??

I'm new to black powder shotguns and I was wondering if using cards only causes lead build up in the barrel? I thought about using modern plastic shotgun wads like winchester AA, but I have been reading posts that the plastic builds up in the barrel and is hard to remove. I was also wondering...

    Pawn shop find

My rifle has blued round ram rod pipes. I'm thinking about replacing the rear sight. (it's just a flat primitive sight with a small notch. My old eyes are having a hard time seeing it. I have an original cva mountain rifle adjustable sight that I have had for a while. Other than that...

    Pawn shop find

I'm sure that is what I have. Thanks for the information. I can't wait to go try it out.

    Pawn shop find

I stopped by my local pawn shop the other day and found a CVA mountain rifle. It doesn't look exactly like the original mountain rifles though. It doesn't have a patch box and the trigger guard is different than a mountain rifle. The nose cap, trigger guard, and the butt plate look like...

    Which one would you choose?

Does your trapper have a choke or is it cylinder bore? The reaon I ask is I'm trying to find out how to get wads and cards through a modified or full choke.

    Which one would you choose?

I am thinking about using a muzzle loading shotgun this squirrel season. I am trying to decide between a 12 ga New Englander or a 56 cal smoothbore Renegade. Would the sights on the Renegade be an advantage for squirrel hunting? Is the New Englander lighter and better balanced? Thanks in...

    32 cal, traditions or pedersoli?

Maybe a picture or link of that jag would help. Do you think it is necessary to remove the clean out screw when cleaning like it says in the owners manual? Most of my other BP rifles don;t even have this screw.

    32 cal, traditions or pedersoli?

I just bought a new Traditions Crockett 32 cal. rifle. What exactly is different about the breech and what do you have to do to keep the cleaning patches from getting hung up? I did a search on this subject but didn't find the answer. I have cleaned the oil and grease out of mine and didn't...

    56 smoothy

I use a .530 ball with a .020 pillow ticking patch and 90 grains of 2f. My barrel measures a little on the small side, so you may be better off with a .535 ball. As for shot, I use 1 1/8 oz. of #5 shot and 70 grains of 2f. I use two 1/8 felt wads over the powder and 1 card wad over the shot...

    need pattern for a sling

I'm wanting to make a sling out of a 2 inch wide, 1/8 inch thick piece of leather. Lately, I need to use a walking stick (cane) in the woods and it would be nice to have my muzzleloader on my shoulder. I really don't want to put sling swivels in my stock or thimbles. I was thinking more of...

steel shot in a 56 cal

J.D. check the article in this months issue of the Missouri Conservationist. It's mainly the areas managed for dove hunting and areas that get a lot of hunting pressure. The place I hunt has been shotgun only for several years, so a single projectile is not an option.

steel shot in a 56 cal

One of my favorite areas to squirrel hunt is going to non-toxic shot only. I like to use my TC 56 cal smoothbore for squirrel hunting. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience shooting steel shot from a 56 cal. I assume I would need some kind of heavy shot cup to protect the bore. I...

    Over powder materials

Hey Blizzard, what kind of felt do you use to make your discs? How thick is it and where do you get it? The only felt I can find is only about 1/8 inch thick and too soft to hold its shape.

    56 SB--Slight Barrel Pitting

If the price is right, I would take a chance. Before purchasing, check the rest of the bore with a bore light. I have found that MINOR pitting usually does not effect accuracy. You know, using that smooth bore with shot is a lot of fun.

    New .54

I have a Lyman trade rifle and a Thompson Center renegade, both in 54 cal. The most accurate load in both rifles is 90 grains of 2F and an .018 pillow ticking patch lubed with bore butter.

    56 cal Renegade

Thanks Claypipe, I have it figured out now, these computers are so picky. I guess I should read what's on the screen before I start pushing buttons. :haha:
