    do loaded minnie balls move

I recall deer hunting with a 2 band Enfield one December. At one point I looked at the muzzle and there was the minnie ball half hanging out.

what to use under the barrel

Another vote for Johnson's Paste Wax here. If I have browned a barrel, I use it over the whole barrel after neutralizing the browning solution. It lasts for years. I even use it under the barrels of my suppository guns.

    Just an observation

As my brother once said. 'There is something honest about black powder'.

    Small caliber shooting?

I use my .32's for 25 yard matches though I did have to use one out to 100 yards for a couple of days at one match due to my usual .50 being out of commission. The .32 worked at that distance as in it wasn't random all over the target but it didn't win anything either.

Which Pedersoli Tryon to get for target shooting? (.50 or .54)

I have used my 50 caliber Tryon in competitions for years out to 100 yards. I have won a few medals each competition with it. It is more accurate than I am. In the end, either caliber should work if you find the load it likes and learn to shoot it.

    Billinghurst UH Barrel Connection

Thanks Barry and Billy. I'll be using a 1¼" round barrel so will mill a flat at the correct angle to work from.

    Billinghurst UH Barrel Connection

Thanks for the replies. Barry, the nipple looks like it is tipped backward. Is it or just the photo angle?

    Billinghurst UH Barrel Connection

How were the barrels on the original Billinghurst underhammer bench guns attached to the action? For those of you who have built an underhammer from the Billinghurst action kit by Muzzleloader Builders Supply, how did you attach the barrel? Thanks

    Flint vs percussion power comparison

I recall on this site or another ML site someone did the percussion/flint comparison. They had 2 rifles, both factory made identical models only one in flint and the other in percussion. The chronograph showed the flinter to be 100 fps slower for identical loads.

    Underhammer trigger

Personally I have ground it down some to make a smaller notch. I had the same issue of it breaking and broke a couple. Grinding down seems to have helped. The metal does seem brittle.YMMV.

Safe shooting distance for roundballs and steel targets?

They had a flat base and were set on the beam so they were free to fly if hit.

Safe shooting distance for roundballs and steel targets?

Years ago we used to have steel silhouette shoots using patched round ball at our Club. The 25 yard target were a squirrels lined up on an old barn beam. We used to shoot from in front of the shooting shack. The young lad shot one squirrel with a .50 and we all congratulated him. Then we heard a...

    Dutch Schoultz and Blackpowder Accuracy

Thanks Dutch. I've never used Ballistol as it hasn't been sold here in the Great White North. I was planning to pick up some when I go south of the border soon. The patches using the lastest batch of cutting oil I use don't seem to hold accuracy after a few months. I blame the oil as in years...

    Dutch Schoultz and Blackpowder Accuracy

I'm not sure if this has been asked but can Balistol be used for the lubricant with this system? I bought the package years ago and still go by it.
