    Rifles of the 1830s

Col. Dodge is in his Ranger "Uniform" {Which was no real uniform}; not yet changing to his Dragoon uniform, and the hunt occurred on the Leavenworth/Dodge Dragoon Expedition to the Plains tribes near the present site of Fort Sill. Thus his need for the pistols & sword.

    Range time

It's the Invest Arms South Paw version, I got used from Track of the Wolf. At about 25 yards or slightly less I was shooting a bit high; but, I still need range time if the weather cooperates, I was drenched by the time I quit. (internal moisture source not external)

    Range time

The challenge with the safe side was getting the Great Pyrenees to quit sitting beside the target.

    Range time

Just a quick note after finally taking out my Cabelas Hawken last Friday. Loads of fun cut paper, definitely need to take it out more. About the fifth shot I tried to see how a cut at the muzzle ticking patched ball would be, but dry balled it; and I must thank all who've posted the advice to...

    blunderbuss use and range

I remember several years ago seeing a pistol sized blunderbuss at the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa that was listed as being used here in the Indian territory during the Civil War. It would have been quite a close quarters combat for this to be effective.

    Hunter Safety Today

This thread brings to mind a Tex Avery classic: Field and Scream; http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8bk64_field-scream_shortfilms. Mandatory hunter safety courses have helped not near as dangerous as a very long list of other sports.

    Confederate Indians

When the Wolf Came is a good general work to begin to understand the War here in the Territory. The Chronicles of Oklahoma have several articles on the different aspects of the war at...

Personally I think he would prefer you scrape a local stone. Enjoy the final decision, and the chase.

    Found Chert

Thanks for all of the replies. I currently don't have a camera, I know I need to get with all of the most current technology, but I'm working diligently to get with the historical technology first. The pieces are of various sizes, most of what I have picked up from the county road are mostly...

    Found Chert

Recently there was a load of gravel spread in front of the house that was loaded with chert/flint to the detriment of tires on multiple vehicles. Would this be useful or would it be too weak since it has gone through the rock crusher?

    HEY SOUTHPAWS

One question I have is was there a determination of the ethnicity of the corpse. I have seen several places that leftys were common among the Indians; was wondering with the bells and beads in the grave. Either way it is an interesting piece of history.

    canteen ?

Ah giardia, the lovely organism passed by the mountain man's favorite prey. Kinda the beaver's revenge for the European appitite for felt top hats. When I was an undergrad I had a Parisitology Class in which the professor told of another in the department who consumed giardia tainted water...

check out the latest NRA issue

I just ran out to the shelf and picked this up. This article and the preceding one on the relative marksmanship of the Americans are very interesting, I would have liked to see more documentation of resource materials, but very good overall.
