    EuroArms 1863 Springfield

I got mine through S&S Firearms. I have always had good luck with them. They have an on-line catalog and have all kinds of parts, uniforms, and guns.

    Ball Pulling

After getting a ball stuck once and suffering so much with a ball puller, I got a co2 unloader and it works great!

    EuroArms 1863 Springfield

Finally got to try that greased patch after the bullet and it seemed to work much better! I was just thinking about calling it a day when a woodchuck popped up about 80 yards away. I thought I would at least scare the manure out of him so I aimed about 8 inches low and closed out his health...

    EuroArms 1863 Springfield

Thanks for the info - I never thought of running a greased patch down over the bullet and removing the patch. Makes sense to me - should keep down fouling a lot too. I'll try it this weekend after the gun show!

    EuroArms 1863 Springfield

Finally got to spend a day shooting my new .58 Springfield 1863 type 1 made by EuroArms. I'm using an old style Lee minnie that I cast from pure soft lead and size them to .575 with Alox. I found that 60 grains of Pyrodex RS was the most accurate (so far). The thing that confuses me is that it...

    Traditions Buckskinner .50 Percussion Rifle?

I have one in flintlock. Just checked it and it says 1 in 66 twist. I cast my own Lee R.E.A.L .50 cal. bullets out of pure soft lead. Grease up the grooves good and I use 70 grain of 3F for hunting. It is a great little gun out to 50 yards, but past that,it gets squirrely. I love the hooked...

How do you carry lubed patches?

I use a plastic smokeless chewing tobacco box. Also use one for my dampened swabbing patches.

    Attacked While Hunting!

I was going through a corn field in early muzzle loading season wearing a blaze orange beenie when a small hawk came out of the wood line heading right for my head. It dawned on me he must have been after that hat so I grabbed it off my head when he was about 50 yards away from me. I'll never...

    Your gun's name?

I call my Sharps "Bertha". Haven't named my 1863 Springfield yet, but I do call my Traditions PA flintlock a bunch of things I can't repeat here.

    Making Caps

I have one and haven't used it for years. Greeny stick-um caps worked well, but when I couldn't find them anymore, I had to use two of the red roll caps to work. I plan on holding onto mine just incase "they" ever decide to outlaw or tax #11 caps into oblivion.

    Swabbing in between shots??

I think ohio ramrod had a great idea to prevent that. If it blocks up to the point of not going off, it's time for a breach fouling scraper and a "field day" cleaning.

    50 cal REAL bullet

I use them in my Traditions PA hunter and they work well for me. I use 65 gr of 3F for hunting. Make sure you have a sturdy starter!
