    What Ball for 16 ga.

!6 gage is roughly .690" I have used a .65 ball with success. All cartridge loads, the paper acting as a patch of sorts. Barrel scraped after 5 shots. General rule of thumb (military thumb that is) for ball dia is .03" to .06" less than the bore diameter. L

    Cleaning your ML

For what it's worth I shoot mostly blank rounds (Revwar militia) I have found windshield washer fluid, WD-40 and motor oil (SAE 30) work wonders on the bore and paste wax to protect the outside and wood. WWF has alcohol, soap and water, ideal for dissolving BP residue and a quick dry. WD - 40...

    Browning Bess

Greetings All, I purchased an Indian Charleville and wish to brown the barrel and furniture to reduce maintainability (polishing). The trigger and guard assembly is staked to the stock which eliminates any process that requires heat. Any information on cold browning will be most appreciated. I...

RB loads and Buck and Ball loads for .72

John Buck and ball is a revwar military load specified in numerous daily orders from both sides. It consisted of 3 shot (unspecified size)and a ball rolled in a cartridge thus: buck, ball, powder. To my knowledge, this is the only way B&B was loaded. I find no increase in accuracy or effect at...

    Cleaning a flintlock?

I don't recall where I learned of this but it works well. After dry brushing my Charleville barrel to remove most of the crud, I plug the vent and use windshield washer fluid, jag and patches to swab out the bore. When dry, a good coating of WD-40 inside and butcher's wax outside finish the...
