    Wild turkey, good eating?

Wild turkey is the best. I cut it in strips (accross the grain), soak it in buttermilk for at least a day (you can even freeze it that way), batter and fry however you like it.

    Virginia Turkey

I do have the evidence, but have not tried posting. (same as not having it I guess)

    Virginia Turkey

Finally got some time off after April 15, (I am a CPA) and went to my little get-away in Virginia. Friday, I encountered a long beard with his pants afire. I put his fire out with a load of 5.5's from my 20 Ga. Fowler Flintlock. Had a 9" beard and weighed 22lbs. Real happy about that.

    Good Changes in NC

It is my understanding that the changes have been adopted.

So how did they clean MLs back in the day?

One major difference is that we are using steel barrels and until about the time of the War of Northern Aggression most barrels were iron. They would rust differently and certainly their old barrels would need freshnen up pretty often until it was too thin.

Finally tried it...left Flintlock loaded in the truck overnight..

For about the last three years I have left my hunting gun loaded for day until I fired it. Unfortunately last turkey season I left my shotgun loaded for three months and it fired fine. I use a patch with 91% alcohol with the frizzen flipped down on it. This seems to works to draw the moisture...

    .395 mold

Perfect solution------except for one thing. They don't make a double.

    .395 mold

I would like to find a .395 mold which will cast multiple balls. I want a good mold which will last. What do you guys recommend?

    58 Cal rate of twist

Was looking a 58 cal barrel for a TC Hawken and located a TC barrel but the twist rate was 1:48. Seems mighty fast for a patched round ball. What do y'all think?

    Patch & ball loads

I use a wad of hornets nest over my powder and it works great.(you have to watch out for the hornets though). They actually seem to give me tighter groups than an op wad.

    Iron Barrels

Does anyone have any thoughts about the maintenance they had with iron barrels. It seems to me that they would not have had to take the care of them that we do steel barrels. Of course they shot out after a while and had to be "freshened".

    More hunting is Alaska

I would rather have the moose meat than the trophy. I would not dream of going to Alaska and not returning with most of the meat. I could see giving some meat to my guide, outfitter etc, but the objective of killing is to eat and I am sorry, but that is the way I think it should be done.

    More hunting is Alaska

I know this may sound silly to some people, but I am a kill and eat hunter. I don't like to give meat away to get rid of it. If I can't use it I don't kill it. If I were to go to Alaska, how do I get the meat back. My plans were to fly there and back. Any experience with this?

    Alaska Hunt

In 2010 I will be 66 years old and retired as of 5:30, Friday, April 30, 2010. I would like to plan a 6 week trip to Alaska doing a little fishing, sightseeing and hunting moose, with my flintlock--probably a .54 cal. I do not care to trophy hunt. I just want to take a moose, process the meat...

    Proper off-hand form

What is the proper hold for offhand shooting in muzzleloading shoots? Can you use the supported elbow position or does the arm have to be extended?
