I built this from the parts. Douglas 1 x 44" .54 barrel cut to 32", barrel inletted only blank, other parts from Track of the Wolf. My engraving after an original Hawken lock. The owner killed one deer with it, then had shoulder surgery and is trading it back to me. I am building him a similar Hawken but in a 7/8 x 31" .40 caliber.

There were a lot of Hawken photos posted in the Builder's Bench about two years ago. You can do a search. I think the first post was titled "Post Hawkens Here".

I built a full stock Hawken flinter a couple of years ago. I had been packing the lock and barrel around for many years and moves.

It has a hooked breech on a 36" x 1" .58 GM barrel. The lock is a L&R Large English lock and has L&R Hawken triggers. The trigger guard is a little new styling for the style of rifle. It came off an Umberti Santa Fe that got incenerated in a motorhome fire.

It's the bottom rifle in this photo.

Mike, would you have any photos you would care to post of those Hawkens? I would truly like to see them so I could get an idea for one I've been kicking around in my head for sometime.

These were all built from boards and choice parts from various vendors. Here are a few....

The Blue Ribbon is from the Masters Category at Dixon's about three years ago.

Fred, old buddy, I hope you have that night nurses lap top so you can enjoy this thread.

That top one really winds my watch!

I got to tell ya, Mike. That Buccaneer ya built a couple years ago really trips my triggers! Thanks for the compliment.

I am with Stump, I would like to see more custom built Hawkens posted. How about it fellas?

There's one of mine here in town, I need to borrow that and get some pictures of it. I must have built it 15 years ago or more and saw it again a couple years ago. I was surprised how cool it looked. I built it as an early gun with as a percussion conversion with a flint lock plate. I just removed the pan and left the fence on the plate. It has an outstanding piece of wood in it too. Also the Modena patch box with those silver stars around it.

That sounds cool. I can't wait to see it.

BTW Herb, do you have any more pictures of the one above with the engraved plate? I would like to see more of that rifle. :hatsoff:

Howdy Mike,

Did you ever get a chance to shoot some pix of that fullstock Hawken?

Herb, have you any more pix of that perticular J&S Hawken marked rifle?
