Out of all the things I miss, I miss my Zippo the most. Stopped smocking a dozen years ago, put the Zippo, I've had it since 1967, up on the shelf. It is all engraved with places in Viet Nam and the 1st Marine Division crest.

Once in the airport they told me I could not have it on the plane, after the shoe bomber, I said take the guts out, but the agent said " IF we did that we would end up with bunches of guts". Had to mail it to myself for $15.00

Best Flint and Steel fire starter ever

Shows y'all the state of THIS country??? Yup, the Marines should have told Zippo just what they can do with their lighters? To me Zippo was always American as Apple Pie, or at least it USED to be!! I'm glad I gave up smoking 27 years ago and tossed MY Zippo.

I quit Aug. 28, 1988. Got tired of the boys kick starting my breathing every time we went hunting and had to climb the mountains. Country is in unstable shape fight about to begin.

These days it seems so many folks read a text, and then fail to comprehend what it is that they have read. Words have meaning!
But I suppose using a very liberal interpretation of the rules of English grammar, might somehow lead one to a guess (certainly not to deduce) that I was trashing Zippo.
You're always going to find some antagonist somewhere. Some folks is just plain grouchy.

It was refused because of a cap and ball revolver?? You do know that you can buy factory zippos with revolvers on them? Last Nov. I bought myself a new zippo. It has an etched trout fishing scene on it. I also bought a very good friend's adult son a Marine zippo as a welcome home from duty gift. While looking through a 'zillion' different zippos on Zippo's site and 2 other retailers sites to find the right Marine zippo and one for me, I saw a few factory zippos with guns painted on them.

Also Zippo and Case knives are the same company. A whole lotta Case knives are used every hunting season. Seems a bit odd that they would refuse your design.
It may have been cancelled because it was too difficult to make? I have never seen anything from Zippo being anti 2nd Amend. I know this because my First Cousin is married to Blaisdel WIck, and is one of their graphic Artists. yup , owner of Zippo.

I do not smoke anymore, but still have two or three Zippos. Not sure why, I just do?! They are the simple plain ZIppo. Zippos have their good & bad points. Most of them will run on just about anything you can put in them fuel wise, but the weakness has always been evaporation, IMHO. The fuel does not last long once it is put in the Zippo, maybe a week at best in my experience.

You are quite correct. I think I love them for the nostalgia. Back in my Army days, I used to smoke quit a lot when I could. Today I use a USB rechargeable lighter. Works in wind, rain, and all weather conditions. I haven't smoke since '88, but it has it's uses. I hadn't recharged it in a year and it was still working. Now I charge it about every 6 months. Depending on usage. Hate electric cars though:thumb:

Why care?
How does "zippo" even apply inside this forums context?
Nice try @Darto trashing an American icon,,
But you only share part of the story.
My guess is the "cheerful" e-mail was explaining his pixel rate/format was too large to apply to a basic size zippo lighter within the service offered.
Instead of re-applying with proper context,, he simply cry's,, "They won't make my picture,," 😭
Really? You're pretty rude. And snarky. What's wrong with posting it here?

I think Darto and many of us just figured out that there was just too much detailed graphics for zippo to do accurately (see original post graphic). Zippo still seems to support American Freedom.

I agree. ZIppo has always been supportive of 2ndAmend rights etc. It is still in Bradford, PA where my Grandparents grew up. My brother and i hunted there every year since we were babies. My mother was born and raised there, and her brother too. My "uncle" had two daughters, and one married WIck's son, Blaisedell (Blaise) Wick! She was a graphic artist at Zippo for 25 yrs before she retired. The Wicks eventually sold out to the Dorns, who were also part of the original owners, ie, Blaisdell, Dorn & Wick..

Born in Colver, PA (near Ebensburg & Johnstown & Altoona. Beautiful mountain area. Moved to Texas for work, and loved it there also. Moved to Colorado over 30 years, before it became Commierado!! Time to migrate to a free state.

I quit smoking but I kept my Zippo collection of 50 years

My old PX Zippo cost me $1.60. Somewhere along the way it got a coin brazed on the side of it -- I disremember what kind of coin, but it was one I got in change in a far place. The lighter itself was battered and worn, had been back to Zippo two or three times for repair and they always polished the case carefully without damaging the coin. Finally they put a new hinge on it (again) and sent it back with a note saying that they couldn't polish it any more `cause the brass was showing through the plating that was left. About that time my office crew gave me a smaller Zippo, this one gold so I put the beat-up one away in a drawer. Awhile after that, a little light came on over my head (A thought!) and I quit smoking. The gold lighter went in the drawer with the old one. That was 20-odd years ago. Both of `em still work. They bring back memories.

Just used mine about 1/2 hour ago, still smoke at 75,no lectures please ha ha. Lost my RVN one somewhere between Virginia Beach and Maryland, I have a search in on ebay in case it ever shows up for sale since my name and rank is on it. I do have two of the Vietnam "porno" lighters that my Sons get a kick out of.

so the family who owns a lighter company is named “Wick”… because the wick is what holds the lighter’s flame. That’s funny and kinda odd.
Long ago I knew a guy in DC who worked for the FAA. His name was Duncan Wurm, and yes, he loved fishing.
Sometimes I think God is either playing little jokes or is sending us little messages with this stuff. Because you just can’t make it up.
I never smoked, but the Zippo lighter is a hunter’s backpack mainstay here in PA. A warming fire goes a long way. Lots of people carry their Pap’s WWII or Korea Zippo. Or now Vietnam. They are an iconic design, reliable, and well made. I suspect Zippo would not make the OP’s special order because the company could not. Probably copyright infringement. A big Nope. If you alter that image a little, however, they might.

Yes, the original owner was G Blaisdell, then others married into the clan, Dorn's and Wicks...what is really funny is my first cousin, my mother's brothers daughter married a Wick, they live in Bradford, PA. His name was Blaisdell Wick, or Blase Wick for short! Can't make this stuff up!!
