Refinishing my 1972 Zouave. I had stripped the stock down and applied truoil about 40 years ago. Have never been happy with the stock coloration afterward. Its all disassembled now and brass parts polished. More to follow when completed.

Looks good. Round plates look fight and are historic. Then square is ok too and historic. After all join the navy or go to jai you get three squats a day.
Just now finishing a smooth rifle, got stuff to handle an old knife blade, will be ordering material for eighteenth century coat next week, and so it goes

Slowly working on my FDC. These are the most recent photos. I've been a bit sidetracked over the last month. But I am determined to finish it.

Redoing the handle on one of a pair of knives I bought years ago, before I knew the tacks are no good for my times and place,
    20190429_170451.jpg 20190429_170433.jpg 20190429_170350.jpg
I also addressed that, too close to my knuckle rear corner of the blade,
    20190429_170414.jpg
Not quite as thin or well squared as I wanted,
    20190429_170318.jpg
Mistakes were made, should have cut the pins shorter.
Used what I had, home improvement store craft maple, wish I had boxwood or similar. Used burgundy Fiebings dye hoping to kill some of the maple look and mimic the period referenced "red handled scalpers."
Finishing now with a few applications of b.l.o. then some beeswax.

Love it. I have been struggling to make similar for over a year, working a little at a time, and not really knowing what I'm doing. I make antler powder chargers, but that is short and the hole doesn't go all the way through. How do I make the hole through and around the curve without busting the side? Maybe you could do a thread in "craftsman" answering?

    Brokennock,

Pretty simple on this one. It’s a midsection of a long tine. So it was actually straighter. Just a little curve. Not much. I used a cabinet rasp and file to put the curve in it. The drilled hole is more or less straight. Mebbe a little of an angle to drill. I kinda cheated. There’s wasn’t a whole lot of pithy interior.

    Good luck on your endeavor!

Just getting started on this one. I've had different parts following me around for better part of 10 years.
.50 Caliber flintlock pistol when she is done!

I'll be a Bachelor for three weeks while my wife finishes her contract and then comes to Nevada! I hope to work on it hard in the evenings!!
