Here are some updated pics with a fee new things. Deer season is here again so I had to get some orange going. Decided to try my hunter orange wool "matchcoat" out for a brief hunt in the rain on Thanksgiving day. I really wanted to check my game camera and my spirit needed some woods time, gully washer or not. Because it was last minute I wore modern clothes but tested the effectiveness of the match coat to keep most of me, my shot pouch, horn, and most of my flintlock smoothrifle dry. Wish I'd had this idea years ago.
Went back out the next day in full period dress. Different waistcoat than my last squirrel hunting pics. Wool of unknown maker, need to find out who made the buttons or where they came from. Anyway, except for my soaked moccasins I stayed warm and dry.

Those there are some seriously soggy moccasin feet, but, my feet really didn't get too cold. I had on thin knee high silk stockings from Brigade Quartermasters (I think) with medium weight wool stockings that came just over the knee on top of those.

All in all, I'm finding some period gear and clothing more comfortable than modern. The matchcoat is a great idea. Breeches with wool Indian leggings don't leave floppy pants cuffs catching on things, rubbing together making noise, or the knee portion of pants rubbing back and forth over the knee as one lifts an lowers the leg over obstacles or climbs hills.

Well shucks, this thread "disappeared" again after just a few likes. I was hoping for a reply or two.

I had intended on posting photos of my new French capot. Unfortunately sewing is taking me longer than I had expected.
On Fourteen March I started a regency/federal style coat. That was twenty six days ago and I have been keeping a log book. I’ve worked on it at least a little bit on twenty two days. Hope to get it done this weekend

With this being the 200th anniversary of the start of the Sante Fe Trail, I’ll try to remember to post some pics from our events this year. From Franklin, Mo., to Bents Fort, we are going to have a great summer!!!
