FOR SALE WTB: Miroku/Ultra Hi (Rifle or Kit)

I recently purchased what I believe to be an Ultra-HI kit rifle, although it may also be a Jukar import due to the “Made in Spain” markings (I’ve attached photos for reference).

As it turns out, the stock on the rifle I purchased is FUBAR, and I need either a replacement stock, complete rifle, or a kit in order to keep it from becoming a paperweight.

So I hear, but I’d use the term “made” loosely. The lock casting on this guy looks exactly like other Mirokus/Ultra-HIs I’ve seen… it looks nothing like any of the Jukars I’ve come across in scouring countless Google images. However, while several components are marked “Made in Spain”, there’s not a single indication anywhere that any parts were manufactured in Japan.

Very nice! I’m impressed by the fit and finish given the frequent criticisms of the Mirokus of this era.

There’s a substantial crack in the lock area with a pretty decent-sized chunk missing. Not really conducive to repair.

Too bad you’re way up North. I have a .45 that I built in the 70’s that I would part for the right price but I don’t want to ship it. Mine looks close to yours but has a “fake” patch box. Probably better off looking for just a stock.

Everything is fixable. I had a substantial crack in the lock area that needed another chunk of wood to repair, this is a TC lock inlet.

I cut a triangle slot, glued in new wood and finished it out

Done; the crack started at the lock bolt hole so I drilled out the hole and put a hickory dowel in so the crack wouldn't open up again.

That is too bad. I found a Miroku on an auction site, but they want nearly $300 for it. Considering I recently bought an immaculate Lyman Great Plains for $450, I’m having a hard time justifying forking out that kind of dough for a Japanese rifle (considering these were made when “Made in Japan” was the equivalent of “Made in China”).

Everything is fixable.

Let me put it this way: its repair is beyond my capabilities. The crack on this guy is quite a bit more… how shall we say… “organic” and substantial than the one you had.

This was supposed to be a gift for my boy (his first muzzleloader), so I’d rather he not inherit a problem child, you know?

The only thing that I didn't like on mine is the two-piece stock. It is one of the most accurate muzzleloaders i have owned.
