For sale is a used wool waistcoat. Wool is in good condition with no rips, holes or moth damage. Lined with what looks like either linen or muslin. Fancy pewter buttons have 5 raised hearts design. Waistcoat measures 31" long from the nape of the neck down the back to the bottom edge; 18 1/4" across the widest part above the arm holes; 22" immediately below the arm holes (ie, size 44) and 20 1/2" across at the top of the pockets (ie, 41" around the belly). I wear a size 44 men's coat and the waistcoat fits me perfectly.

There is one small, faint stain on the front side of the waistcoat -- see circled area in photos. Actually looks worse in the photos than it does in person. I actually only saw the stain after starting to take the photos, but it is there.

From a pet-free, smoke-free home. Waistcoat is $65 plus $9.00 shipping in the lower 48.

Without seeing it on someone it is tough to tell from the pictures, would this be a 1750's/1760's style waistcoat or a later more AWI period waistcoat?
Also, are the pockets functional?

Unfortunately, I am not an expert on clothing of the period, so take my answer with a grain of salt. It is a bit longer than most Rev War period waistcoats I have seen, but shorter than F&I period ones. Also, the bottom front corners of the waistcoat taper to the side revealing an inverted "V" shape view of the clothing below. I believe this was more of a 1760's-1770's feature than would be appropriate for the F&I period. So, I think this is more of a transitional style between the F&I and Rev War periods, but again, I'm not an expert.

The color of the waistcoat is close to that in the photos, but the photos do make it look a bit lighter and a bit more orange that it actually is (at least on my monitor). I would describe the color as "dark red". It is closer to burgundy, but without any purplish tint that burgundy often has.

Also, I wear a size large in clothing off the rack. But my chest measurement is larger than my waist, which is why I included so many measurements at various points of the waistcoat. Best to compare those to one you know fits you well.
