I found a nice vise and now can't find it again. So what's the best vise for building ml,s
Do any of them provide enough angle or whatever for drilling the tang bolt.hole? Pictures please. I would appreciate it. I'm ordering the vise jaws for barrel holding for installing breech plug from Rice for my vise I have now.

My two vises are the pattern maker's vice I built from scratch and a woodworker's bench vice.

Guess this means you have a heavy duty vice mounted to a sturdy work bench. Along with vices similar to what @The Appalachian posted a photographs of, particularly the pattern maker’s vice, you should be in good shape.

Are possibly talking about a vice for a drill press? Might help if you posted photographs of what you have or are trying to accomplish. Otherwise folks are just going to make random guesses.

Maybe this would make things easier with a vise mounted on it. Might save a lot of clamping and reclaiming for every hole drilled.

I have several vises. I like my pattern Makers vise for stock work, my blacksmiths pole vise for metal work, my large shop vise for removing breech plugs. If I had to choose one I'd probably go with my pole vise.

There are things I’ll spend lots of money on, and some that I won’t. My gun building vises are from HF, but I did paint them, hate that blue color. They both have wood & leather pads. I made an adjustable support for the right hand vise, which swivels and tilts. The setup works very well for me for about $50.

Agree, I upgraded from an old Craftsman 8” that I’ve had 35 plus years. The 8” is very limiting, but mine still works fine. But the 12” is a beast. You should be happy with the 10”, WEN makes a good drill press. In fact I like all their products.

Here's a couple pics. Same vise I believe just diff color.
Maroon - Wade Garrett. $190 +$10 extra on top of normal shipping for weight
Dk Green - Woodcraft. $165
Green - Grizzly $143 free shipping

As @crow said, all the same vise made in Taiwan. I hear this style works well so I’m looking to get one also.

Am i the only one shocked at how much a vise costs today??? Recently bought a Wilton (USA) 4.5" for $15 and thought i'd won the lottery!
