I pushed' sad' because such bumph & noodledom prevailes in these regions .What are we liable to do with a muzzle loader kit or any muzzle loader ? its just burocratic anti gun twaddle drempt up by mindless & ignorant burocrats.
I once stopped of in Sydney with an original Needle fire Rook rifle & a original Double rifle any child in UK could own Yet Sydney where postivly hostile wouldnt let me take with me & later on return to collect my guns they where seethingly hostile Like I was Bin Laden triede to waffle out of it . But stuff them I persisted .They escourt me to the check in & I land in NZ the customs say ' fine by us & see the police ' I do they say "What you got this time ?" and write me an import permit & off I go . But now we have a loony left govt who dream up all the anti gun feasies they can. No sense just official negativity .Brave New World ? P on it. Oh I queried this nonsence with the Police in Sydney I was told al long guns of any age require a liscence But any pre 1900 pistols was freely collected ? Go figure .But then Each Australian State seems to vie with each other to bring about the silliest laws .I used to keep guns at a cattle Station near Surat then QLD bring out anti gun laws that cost me a flint 40 cal & a Double Rifled 500 3" BP Express by Lang no logical reason just some political ' Look good'' Doing Some thing' cock. The 40 cal flint has London or its original lock & a row of stamped bears on the breach end of the barrel wooded patch bow draggon side plate pretty ropey but was my first rifle I made .& shot a patched picket conical like a 451. It went Via Searles gun shop in Brisbane . mostly curious where it went Regards Rudyard

Mate that would of had to be the local Copper making it up as he went along, when Howards Gun Laws came in Qld never had a problem with BP ML's particularly genuine antiques; nothings changed to this day.
I wouldnt be surprised if the Cop had a vested interest of his own, thinking "what a great find, I can confiscate it, and pick it up myself later). Similar things have happened believe me.

Hm I emailed TOW Just before I saw your note to ask if they are or not . If you look at the shipping in the cart It will allow you to select us again.
I will wave an order flag when I am putting an order in. (Not this month I am wragling registry, I have had my transfer in since early march and decided to ring them, According to the nice lady I had not submitted it but had saved it as a draft so I have to sort that out so they can move it along. Later this evening.

The Jim Chambers kit I'm working on isnt a problem, you have the option of 98% inletting being done and all you have to do is the fine fitting, and clean up up some furniture parts.

Being a Lefty is my problem, although I've no difficulty with a RH Flintlock its the lack of Cheek piece that annoys me.
On Smoothbores without a Cheek piece its acceptable.

I've built a Pecatonica River kit LH in .36 Southern Mtn style years ago and was happy with it, they offer a wide range of kits and a goodly number of LH styles ; having little other choice I'll order from them again in the New year.

Coinneach,
Down here , south of the border, we have to go through a minefield, to make our own m/ls, although I haven’t checked lately.
I contacted Firearms Registry some years ago to see what the procedure was for changing a barrel, was told that it must be done by a licensed gunsmith or a firearms dealer.
So I asked about changing the barrels on a gun that had two or more sets of barrels, still haven’t got a reply!!.

The time QLD brought in this gun or anti gun laws my guns went to some fellow name of Pointeen who had some radical views . The Cockey coundn't take them when he moved to Toowoomba so had to sell them to Searles in Brisbane the lock alone was all the value pay I got. The double went to a noted collector . No off his own bat gun grabbing cop involved . Just bloody polititions .

Apologize, just seems like what you guys are talking about relates to what I see here now. A manufacturers license needed for this and that to work on firearms. Always thought with all the pics of piles of firearms being destroyed they were rounded up.

"When they took your guns how did the police respond?"

"They" didnt take our guns away, why do so many Americans think this ?
We Aussies really do get tired of hearing it.
I concur, I've seen clips of American politicians commending Australia on disarming civilians...

For any american friends reading this thread, Australian private gun ownership is at the highest level it ever has been in history.

There was a shooting in the early 90s, after that the government said you needed a "genuine reason" for a license. That includes membership to a gun/hunting club or written permission from a farmer saying you hunt on his land. Pistols require you to shoot at a pistol club (I believe 13 times per year), semi auto shotguns require a Cat C and a reason e.g. farmer for pest control. Semi auto rifles and silencers definitely become harder to access for civilians.

Aside from that, having to lock up your guns isn't the end of the world. Self defence is great and all, but we just don't have the level of gun crime here like other countries. Self defence isn't a reason to own a gun, but it is a lawful reason to discharge one.

If we could have anything any way what would I do differently... I'd have a cap and ball revolver and a flintlock pistol, modern semi auto pistols are of no interest to me. I don't have the time for pistol club shoots. I'd have a suppressor on my 30-06 for sure. I would keep my centrefires locked up but would probably keep at least a couple of muzzleloaders on the wall for aesthetics. I wouldn't own a semi auto rifle or shotgun, no interest.

COINEACH: Ok Ill bite So what happened to all of your guns" Educate me
As per my post above I've addressed some of this.

The "taking our guns" part was an amnesty, if you had any old or unregistered guns you didn't want or if you had a gun you weren't prepared to do the required for e.g. my dad gave up his cap and ball revolver because he couldn't be bothered with target shoots and was indifferent to pistols. You could voluntarily hand them over to the police.

They've done several since, I like my guns so I've never handed one over. No one has come to take them.

Bushfire's response pretty well covers it all.

What he mentioned about the percentage of privately owned guns being the highest its ever been in Australia is a well reported fact, additionally "Gun Control Australia" (our Leftard anti gun zealots) have been totally discredited by valid research and revealed to be Liars.

Women gun owners have become significant in their numbers and out spoken, BTW as licensed Gun owners we have the right in my State of Queensland to use a gun in defense ourselves and families in our own home or on our property.

Australias National Shooters Council (NSC) Home has made a number of successful legal wins against different States Police over reach; and continue to grow in support. (Im a member and encourage other Aussies to join, as the NSC are the only organisation actively representing our interests.

A mate of mine was living in Sydney at the time of the law changes , he purchased all sorts of firearms for pest destruction IE; shooting rabbits , wild cats and foxes . He had a letter from a Grazier ( Farmer) 10 hours drive away to say he could shoot pests on his property , the letter/ permit cost $200 , the farmer had issued thousands of these cover letters and the Police never caught on .

Here in my own State of Qld theres no limit on how many people a Farmer / Grazier can approve to shoot on his property.
Many land owners rely on ethical Shooters to control Vermin, the SSAA even has a "Farmer Assist" program involving SSAA members shooting Vermin on Rural properties.

A little aside and it’s strictly rumour.
Victoria had the largest by-back of SLRs (FN, FAL) rifles of any State, the story is that Victorian deep sea fishermen were meeting their New Zealand opposite numbers midway and exchanging cash for rifles to the benefit of both and the Australian Government was then paying top dollar for the ‘fishy’ imports.
