Don is correct, at least on the speed thing. I'm not as picky about the temp but speed is just as important, maybe even more so. Have everything ready and close at hand that you might need, especially on the gang moulds. I've seen where new caster have problems getting started and quite often they are son concerned with getting the perfect bullets or RBs that they fidget around trying to get them perfect and their mould never gets up to proper temp to cast good.
 
I don't run my Lyman pot wide open. I adjust the pot temp a little depending on how much lead is in the pot, how fast I'm casting, the temperature outside ( cast just outside my garage under an overhanging roof) and how big the ball I'm casting. All of those factor into how hot I want to run the pot.
