This is killing my hands!!!!

I really didn't like it at first... I have to be honest...,

THEN as more photos have been shown, progress made..., It's really grown on me and I'm fascinated by the project, the skill needed to make such a close copy of the prop..., (sorry it's hurting your hands; please be careful)

And looking forward to more photos and and photos of the finished piece, as well as a shooting report with photos...,

Here is the latest… yep, I know, it seems like an odd effort, but I was fascinated with the gun growing up. I think I even modified my old cap rifle to resemble tick licker! I was my entry drug to the flintlock addiction.

More color… I’m thinking this rifle should look like a native/primitive carving piece. It’s based on a trade rifle and so many of those ended up in native hands. That’s my take on it… and it excuses my meager carving skills. So far, it’s what I wanted. Feeling very happy with the results!

Not the “beauty” shots yet, but Tick Licker is done. Rough and ready, a nice addition to my more art-form rifles and a great conversation piece on the shooting range.

Nice job! I have also been fascinated with that gun since I was a kid

I'm thinking Besides Henry Fonda and Fess Parker that same rifle was also carried by Gary Cooper, John Wayne, Charleton Heston, and maybe Fred MacMurray.

60 years from now or so, somebody is going to be offering that as "Unconfirmed provenance, but likely one of the actual props used by ....[fill in several actor's names here] in the 20th century production of [fill in several movies and TV show titles here] ". And post several old photos from the actual shows as "proof"... 😇 HEY if the Smithsonian can post an "original axe head" and then one day a guy is visiting and sees the display, and is the guy who actually made the axe, and identifies it as his work including certain "marks"... , then why not?.. 🤭
