I planed a small slab of the maple wood from my yard tree. The pistol size blank is about 2X8X12 inches. I waxed the end cuts. It will be a couple of years before it's dry enough to work.

today i soaked the bore of my combo rifle/smooth bore with most of the stuff against the breech to get that clean of rust. most of the bore is clean with just a few pits.
I am in the clutches of Multiple sclerosis reoccurring type at the present so after the exhausting chore of swabbing that bore, I went back to bed at 10:30. slept another 4 hours. feel like a dead dog.
hope you feel better soon.

Had another cold one…

21*f here in the sunny South this morning.

Nice weather so ran out to the range with the Pedersoli Tryon creedmore , trying a lighter weight bullet at 365 grains. At 100 yards and 65 grains 3f Goex the shots are mostly in a 6” paper saucer I used as a target.

Spent the afternoon at my range shooting my flint .50 Pedersoli Kentucky rifle. Hadn’t shot it in a while, which is a shame, because it’s a fun rifle to shoot. The only load change I made from regular is I used lubed over powder wads, which seemed to help. I put over 35 balls down range which is a lot for me, but the weather was nice and I just enjoyed shooting. Was using 70 gr 3F Goex with a .015 lubed wad & .490 RB. Most of my shots were at 50 yrds but I shot some at 100 too. With my eyes I was pleased with the 100 yard groups. I was using my homemade beeswax/crisco/& oil lube. Next time out I’ll try some .018 & .020 wads.
Really nice range set up!! And great shooting!

I'm in need of an original Tryon backaction lock RH if anyone has a lead on one

Fired the new Kibler SMR build today for the first time. I loaded with .015 wonder lube patch, .390 cast round ball with 35 grains 3F with 4F in the pan at 28 yards. I purposely aimed low on the first shot thinking it would hit high from poa, but to my surprise, it hit exactly where I aimed it. The second shot was high and to the right but I knew I pulled that one the second I squeezed the trigger. My third shot was dead on. Three shots were fired, but no hang fires or pan flashes. What a joy for my first flintlock build and first time shooting a flintlock.

I didn't make the bow, I am an osage selfbow guy. As bow season approached, I had a few surgical complications that sapped my strength, I couldn't pull my old favorite bow (52#) back well enough to hunt with it, I have a 43# bow but it was shooting poorly. I started a new osage bow with poundage a could pull but the limb cracked when I bent the recurves so I bought the Black Hunter longbow in the picture off Amazon for $100 that was 43# at my draw length. That dang bow may be the best shooting bow I ever shot; my woods shoot perfectly out of it. I have bow hunted with it this year but not gotten a shot so far.

I had a beautiful piece of osage, albiet with several knots that added character, on the tillering tree, two weeks ago when after bending it probably 30-40 times it cracked for no apparent reason. Dang it!

Actually yesterday…
First outing with my Kibler Colonial 50cal, 60 grains, 25 yards. Love this rifle!
