@aussie pete Glad you came out of it ok. That's a lot of rain.

Holey Toledo is right @Loja manHoly Toledo! My conversion calculator says thatās 43ā!!
A: are we missing something in the translation?
B: where dose one buy a rain gauge of that magnitude! I think mine only holds about 5ā-8ā!
Oh man!! Thatās hard core rain! Glad you and yours are safe!!Holey Toledo is right @Loja man. Nope not missing anything in the conversion. And - the rain gauge does have to be tipped out, recorded, then replaced each time for the next deluge
.
If you 'google' flood event North Queensland and have a bit of a read, you'll get a good picture of the calamity. And there's more to come, we hear this morning. Thank goodness for the break in the weather over the last day though; it's given a chance for the waters to drain away for the next lot.
As I said, we consider ourselves fortunate; a lot of folks have lost everything. My total of 1100mm (43 inches) pales next to the region just to the north - they received 1700mm - that's 66.9 inches! It's been an absolute rain bomb - neighbours recorded 456mm (17.9 inches) in a single downpour lasting just short of a day. That town's devastated, loss of life, property, inundated and cut off from all access.
We'll do a bit more cleaning up today during the breaks.
Cheers, Pete

A perfectly normal reaction !Walked by my PA Fowler this morning. Wanted to go walk in the woods with it instead of going to work!!
45 years ago I built this NW trade gun from a plank with Curley Gomstocki's barrel, lock, thimbles, trigger guard. I made a slight mistake drilling the ramrod hole and patched it with a walnut dowel. It was hardly noticeable but I put brass tacks in the gun to "Indianize" it like an idiot. I've regretted it ever since. Monday I bit the bullet and pulled all of the brass tacks out and am steaming the dents out and sanding the areas. I'll use BC stock filler on the little holes and then try to match the stain. If not satisfied I may be facing a complete refinish job but at least those brass tacks are gone.

I don't really like tacks on a rifle but that was tastefully done. It is a beautiful rifle.45 years ago I built this NW trade gun from a plank with Curley Gomstocki's barrel, lock, thimbles, trigger guard. Some tacks look "tacky" but those are very tastefully done, had developed a beautiful patina, & added to the looks of the rifle, IMHO. I would have left them in.45 years ago I built this NW trade gun from a plank with Curley Gomstocki's barrel, lock, thimbles, trigger guard. For tacks they do look nice! Not a lover of tacks but he did a good job with placement and quantity! Some tacks look "tacky" but those are very tastefully done, had developed a beautiful patina, & added to the looks of the rifle, IMHO. I would have left them in.
