What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Is there a technical name or school of rifle for that style butt?

I could comfortably shoot from the bench with that flat butt plate.

Most people, today, use this butt plate for Isaac Haines style rifle. However, it's good for any early Eastern Pa. rifle that uses a wide PB like an Early Lancaster or John Bivins. If you look up Isaac Haines BP, you'll easily find it. Semper Fi.

I've been considering a Class 1 (Military .58) rifle for a few years and have kept an eye on the Sales web sights here in Oz. Had a Zoli Zouave 20 years ago and it shot well. Very well actually. Thought maybe I'd get a Parker Hale 2 band Enfield this time but for good ones they are double the price. You pay extra for (a).. the name. (b) walnut instead of Beech. (c).. better rear sights.
The ones I looked at were well used, not abused, but showing their age.
Found a Zouave that has been in a collection for 15 years, oiled and cared for, with minimal use prior to that. I can fit a better, period style sight and still be $500 better off.
Nothing against the Enfields, just want a good shooter for the least amount of cash.

I went to the Ohio Quad State blacksmith conference over the weekend. I picked up a nice 20 dollar flatter hammer, a new pair of 5/16s tongs and some other blacksmith related goodies. The best find for me were these two aged powder horns that were on a fellows table. They were begging me to take them home!! They are tight as no air will pass through. Looking forward to making a strap for the larger horn and the small day horn will make a dandy priming horn.

Just got back from the Georgia State Muzzleloaders Shoot held at the Brushy Creek Muzzleloaders Club in Lenox, Ga. ‘‘Twas a blast! Pun intended. A few pics of the loading line, target stations and a video of Forum famous “garypl” shooting for 10x with his flintlock.

took a couple Tylenol to fortify, and worked some on the whatzit. about done with the barrel channel on the forearm extension. thought about putting a silver parting/joining plate between the pieces but just can't stomach the Traditions look.
don't flame me for that its fine for them that have/like them, just not for me. call me snooty.

Today I fabricated an accoutrement that may be of interest to those who like to cut at the muzzle. What to do with that greasy strip of patch material , how to keep it clean and avoid fouling other things has been a question.

So I made up this tube. The end plug comes off allowing a roll of lubed patch material to be inserted. The inside end of the roll is pulled out and fed through a hole in the plug. Now I can extract the amount of cloth needed to patch a ball while the rest of the roll stays neat, clean and tidy inside the tube.
