This afternoon I piddled with a Jukar Kentucky that I got through an auction earlier this week. When I picked it up a few days ago, I found out it was loaded. That led to a great opportunity to teach the lady at the auction house about safely checking muzzleloaders using a ramrod. Anyhow, it was too stuck to get with my ball puller the first day, so it had 3 in 1 penetrating oil in the bore for two days. Still couldn't get ahold of the ball. The puller would grab but then rip out. Then it dawned on me that if I removed the brass spacer piece off the ball puller I might could weasel it over to the wall of the bore and loosen the object up that way. Got it to grab, clamped vice grips to the metal cleaning rod and gave it a few taps with a 3 lb hammer until it started budging.
Here's what came out. Someone appears to have loaded a ball that full fit the bore (probably a .457 revolver ball, as they're more common at gun stores in my experience than .440 balls are.) They then broke off part of a ball puller, which looks homemade or at least a lot like the screw end of my Brazilian. 39 smoothbore trade gun's ramrod. It's wild what abuse some muzzleloaders see!
The bore is heavily pitted, but we'll see how it shoots and cleans up.

Wowser! Good on you for sticking with it until you figured it out when many would have given up.

I did the final work on my stock finishing.

It might be a little too nice and built up, but I do like it I think.
