Finished carving my patch box lid and shaved down the ramrod to fit the pipes on the Kibler Woodsrunner that arrived Saturday. I still have to pick designs for the stock carving on either side of the butt and behind the entry pipe.

The Doc is out now. šŸ˜Ž

Worked up a new mandrel for 36 cartridges. Gonna crank a few out and see what happens. Only using 15-17 grains for my Navy and my Twister. Really just having some fun.

I got to shoot a New Gun To Me today.
Mike Brooks 58 cal ā€œGame Creeper.ā€

Holy Cow! I’ve never shot a flintlock with that kind of ignition speed. I seriously feel like it is comparable to shooting an unmentionable. I manage 6 for 6 on 8ā€ steel at 50 yards offhand. 65 grains fffg, .018 with bear /olive oil and .570 roundball. This is exactly what I wanted. A shorter flintlock to make transport easier and still accurate but in a big game caliber. I am totally excited.

I think I got horse*@:t lucky or it was just meant to be. The listing posted and it turns out the owner was maybe fifty miles away. Local delivery, discount for no shipping and a tour of a shop that most of us only dream of. AND it shoots like a dream. There are a couple write ups on ALR about the gun.

Today was a good day. Most of it was painting trim but maybe an hour of it was unforgettable. :)

Its raining off and on here also, hot and muggy, seamed like a good time to brown barrel for Traditions Kentucky pistol, I have LMF solution I'm using and it appears to be working very well in this heat and humidity. This only 2nd barrel I've browned so its more to learn before I Brown more expensive barrels, other barrel I browned was with BC plumb brown around 74 or 75 when I was 12 or 13 years old,I did a terrible job my goal was to get TC Hawkin together fast as possible so I could shoot :dunno:

Made up some percussion caps using the 22LRreloader kit. I'd actually punched out the cups last year but never got around to finishing them. Because the general consensus is that the binder included in the kit doesn't work well, I left it out and instead used Duco cement diluted in acetone. One drop per cap, tamp, let visibly dry, and then one more drop.

I used the tray from a package of CCI large pistol primers for the loading tray.

Hopefully I'll get to try them this weekend.

My Dad made this knife and sheath sometime in the late 70's and gave it to me in the early 80's.
It's nothing special really, sheath is from a wore out boot top and he said the blade was a Green Mountain or Green River, can't remember but Green something. Some kinda antler handle, he never said.
I've never used it but cherished it non the less, dug it out of the drawer today to take this pic.
If I can harvest a deer with the new to me Santa Fe Hawken this season, thinking this will be the blade in hand.
He'll be 80 tomorrow and it's his last day at his full time job, said he quit, can't bring himself to say the word "retired".šŸ˜‚

Came in from working in my taxidermy shop this evening. Sat down and was perusing this forum when the thought struck, you’ve got time to go to the range for awhile.
The range is only 3 miles down the valley. Back out to the shop, got my stuff and went and shot my Crockett for awhile.
All cleaned and back on the couch checking in with you guys.

Nice find on that 58 CVA, CTL. I can’t wait to see the build and end result. That was my first ML and first kit but in 50 cal, not big bore.

Someone tried some antique technique on the stock. Easy fix for me everything else is in cherry condition. I have two of all the calibers now and one flinter in .50 Got 3 builds ahead of this thumper.
