Raining today, so I decided to do some casting. I needed some .50 REALs for my Renegade, didn’t really need any .50 RBs, but it’s a dual mold so I made a few anyway. Cast about 130 .440 RBs, haven’t really counted them yet. Should be a nice, cool week coming up so I’ll do some shooting.

Um... cool is a relative term I guess. This is what I got today: Yes, the snowflakes really are that big.

picked up my horn that cracked on me a few weeks ago i decided to cut it off and make a smaller horn even if it's too small to be practical it will still give me experience finishing a horn I have a question though. is it common for horns to delaminate on the inside? this one is and I'm not sure of the best way to deal with it

Used the wooden cigar boxes to collect up the cast Minie’s and moved to the side, moved the small ingots to the bench(did notice that my hunch that I didn’t flux it enough was right), and got the 2nd 30# ingot staged to melt down. Won’t be shy with the flux this time.

That is as far as I got today, have WQXR classical music on the cheapo BlueTooth speakers, put out some seeds for the birds, and about to dig into Shelby Foote’s Civil War Narrative.

Got that 1851 close to windage zero about 18'" low with a very tall front sight to file down. A few more rounds to confirm windage then out comes the file.

Off hand at 130 yards… I gotta lot of work too do. I only hit him 3 outta 5 times.🥴
Aim point was his necktie ..
The 2 shots on the right are from a modern .22

Quite a poke up the Hollar’😁
That's fine shooting offhand at that distance. I see 3 " unsurvivable wounds on the Red coat.
I'd love to know what your using, barrel length, load, sights.

Not a hot load, this big girl is a 69 caliber smooth bore using an unpatched .65" ball. Muzzle velocity is only around 500fps with 70gr of powder. The .65" ball weighs 400gr while a .490" ball weighs around 175gr, it takes a lot more powder to get the big ball moving. I've tested it up to 90gr loads but found the velocity drops off past 80gr (just not enough barrel). 80gr of powder yields around 600fps.
Was the British military load around 40 grains? That monster ball hits with authority, that's for sure.
But if you are cool with it, keep shooting!!

Yesterday it was 91, today 55 with cold north wind. Typical Texas, if you don't like the weather, wait a minute and it'll change.

Couple that with losing an hour, I was a bum and no muzzleloader stuff today.
Hot dry north wind on the South end of the state today.

A fine looking rifle. I haven't shot that far offhand in a while. Again, fine marksmanship on your part.
