1842 Musket Project:
Sigh.. Alas, I sent pix of the barrel to my friendly neighborhood N-SSA Small Arms Committee member and found out that since the barrel was originally a rifled barrel that it will always be considered a rifle barrel. Therefore, cannot be relined or made into a Smoothbore. Well, it could but just won't be allowed in smoothbore matches. Which was the whole point in the affair. Frustrating is the word that kind of describes it. The good news is that I can get a newly manufactured 1842 smoothbore barrel from Whitacre Barrels and that would be OK. Going to rename this from 'Johnny Cash Cadillac' musket to 'tarbaby' musket.

Blued and fitted a replacement barrel on a CVA Frontier. Now I have a bright and shiny barrel on the inside.

Did some trading for parts and the like and polished another barrel today. Danced from one foot to the other waiting on Mr. Hoyt to send me a rebored renegade 58 cal barrel. (that is how I am getting my exercise...patience isn't one of my virtues)

Finished the final sanding on the SMR stock. Applied two coats of iron nitrate. Then applied the first coat of Tried & True oil. Probably put 3 coats on with a 48 hour dry time between. Have the stock hanging out of the way for drying. I’ll start draw filing the barrel tomorrow and get it finished up between re coating the stock.

Had the 1861 navy out today. Uberti. This gun looks great. I can hardly see the sights so it shoots a pattern. At least all six hit the sap bucket at 25 yards. 20 grn goex 380 ball . The gun has to be cleaned after two cylinders or it won't rotate. If I had to live in those days I would carry the 1858 when my life depends on it and the colts for good looks.
