Visited the range and played with gongs on the trail walk. Was alone the whole time I was there. Nice, warm and sun shiny September day. Our trail is completely in the boreal forest. Lots of fall colors and smells starting up. Was an excellent time. Took the .54 TC hawken barrel and installed it into the stock I built about 20 years ago as a “poor boy plains rifle” to upgrade my old renegade, along with a sand cast buttplate, trigger guard, etc to make it all iron and no brass or glossy black. Anyhow this hawken barrel was the rusty bored bugger I’ve been working on. Got it sighted in and shooting surprisingly good!
All around, a great day.

They are mini Rubbermaid trash cans, exact replica of the big commercial plastic trash cans. They stack on top of each other really good and are easy to store. The lid snaps on pretty tight so moisture stays out . They are 4.5" tall.
I got them because my wife refers to most of my "stuff" as junk and on a few occasions she has threatened to throw it in the trash. So I'm kinda beating her to the punch.
I've tried to explain to her that this "stuff" is hard to come by.....

I also have a few mini rolling trash cans that I sort pocket change in. I leave them on the bed side table, because she use to complain about me leaving my loose change scattered on the table...
Yes, she just loves my humor!!!

Went out to skull valley to lone rock out on the west desert here in Utah. Shot these just plinking. Top Ruger old Army, traditions kentucky pistol kit, navy arms 12 gauge, and my favorite traditions Shenandoah rifle in .36.

Upgraded my shoulder sack. Added a ticking liner to the flap and some green edging. Left the bottom open for use as a pocket for small lightweight items.
Not pretty, again, went for the “homemade” look

Made some of my genuine, artificial bear grease. I get my bear grease a little differently than most folks.

First, I sneak right up behind an unsuspecting bear. Then, I jump up on him quick as lightning and put one arm around his head and cover up both his eyes. Then, with the other hand I run a finger as far up his nose as I can and wiggle it around until it’s covered in grease.

That’s the easy part. The hard part is turning him loose.

Tried tin foil shot cups in my 10 bore. Results weren't great, maybe slightly better than loose shot. I also shot some lead sinkers I had laying around. That was kinda cool.

It’s actually been a two day project. It started out with a liner but I did something wrong. So I just removed it. Another “fireplace” project, ugly sister to the other projects I’ve done.

My (almost 12 year-old) daughter has been asking about shooting flintlock. She has been shooting 22 for some time, but today did great with a little 45 flinter. Shooting good after some nervousness about recoil, and after a short time was loading on her own as well.
