Five flintlocks ago there were two that I was having a hard time choosing between and when I finally did and got it home I got the, "what do you need another one for?" She totally caught me by surprise because she never once ever said anything before. So I left and came back with the second one and told her "honey I got to thinking about what you said and you were totally right I did need another one, thank you so much." That was the first and last time, nip it in the bud.

Can you all give me excuses I can tell my wife why I need to buy a another muzzleloader. I have completely ran out of them. I am desperate. lol
My wife is actually supportive when it comes to muzzleloaders. I show her the rifle I want and she asks me if I really need it. I tell her the truth--I don't really need it---and she says buy it anyway. And I never question her need for a new dress or mani-pedi or hair tint. It's a marriage made in heaven.

The problem I have when my wife askes me " Do you really need another one"? She is correct, I don't. Don't shoot everything I have now. So, I start asking my self, what is the point of continually buying another firearm, to just sit in the safe etc. Sure, say what you want, have all the excuses for doing it, but me, I said. Geez, she is right, (scary thought). Now if I want something, i get rid of something. I am also thinning the herd at 73, and if it doesn't get used, it is going. Just one mans opinion.:horseback:

several years ago i decided i needed a new shotgun. i walked through the door holding my old double and told my wife i had sprained the barrel. as she is a good girl, she bought me one for Christmas, she then wants to make sure i don't ruin a good gun she asked me how i ruined it. i told just like a baseball putcher sprains his arm i shot at a duck that was too far away. Only took a second for her to figured out i had played her like a well-tuned violin. but i got the new double and she laughed along with me. I must be careful because if i mention a gun i want in front of her she buys it for me. we made a deal over 50 years ago i would stay out of bars and other womens beds and i could spend the money on guns. we have kept that vow.
Sprained the barrel? Sprained the barrel? Sprained the barrel??🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Hoo boy! That's a good one.

On a more serious note, my addic.....um passion is becoming building muzzleloaders. I've built two, both of them flintlock, both of them 20 ga. See...here's the thing: I can't find what I want to shoot over the counter. "Aw heck, I'll just build one. How hard can it be?" says I to myself. And then I think "I can do better on the next one..." Or, "I'd really like to learn to engrave..." And so it goes. Yeah...I have the third one (mostly) planned out in my head. And yup...another 20 ga. French trade gun.

It’s necessary for your Therapy to address and treat an on-going medical condition ( Muzzleloading Addiction Disorder). It’s been approved by a dozen specialists ( this here very forum).
Let us know how it goes 🤓
Ha, ha! BTW, you know how "real" shrinks have that DSM manual? They have to imagine that every person has some sort of 'disorder' in order for them, the shrinks, to have a career. If everyone was perfectly 'sane', they'd be out of business! :)

Actually the therapy can work. It depends on you. Your arthritis demands you continue to work with your fingers and hands and push through the pain. Your back is bad and this helps your through routine exercises required in the loading and shooting process. The overall positive attitude helps you to be a better husband. I’m doing it for you honey.

70 year old Australian Army Vet here, morning warm ups as soon as you get out of bed, start with Neck exercises and work down, then whenever you have time excercise, eg Grip work (progress from foam "sausage" to Spring Grips) whenever you're sitting down. Walk everywhere you can, park your Car well away from the Shop entrances. Light weight work outs twice daily, increase at 5 kgs if youre capable.
The key is to resist the temptation of sedentary activities taking over your daily lifestyle.

Tell me about it, my second wife was a Psychiatrist in a lucrative private practice, everyone had to fit in one of the many templates in her Reference manual, when she was writing Medical-Legal reports that generally condemned Fathers / Husbands/ male Parents etc to the Courts in Cases of Access; shared Parenting etc.

Trust me, NEVER EVER talk to a Psychiatrist/Psychologist theyre not your friends.

When she catches me I tell her it didn’t cost much at all, I knock a zero off the end. If it cost 400 I tell her 40, if 1800 I say 180.
My biggest fear is after I assume room temperature she’ll sell them to my “buddies” for what I told her they cost!

1. You need one for bad weather
2. Your muzzleloader is very old and with inflation it would be much more expensive if you bought another one in the future.
3. This is the very last one I will ever buy. Really! I promise!
4. It's really difficult to see the sights clearly on the one I have and I sure would hate to accidently shoot someone.
5. Hey honey, why don't you start shooting with me? You can use the one I have and I'll just pick up some other old one somewhere. I would love us doing this together.
6. A guy at the range has an uncle that passed away and his widow is getting rid of all his stuff. He had this old muzzleloader and she is selling it and doesn't even know what it's worth. In a regular gun store it would cost 3 times as much a she is asking.
7. You know I could make a lot of money at some of these shoots if I just had another gun that would shoot straighter that the one I have. Hell, it would probably pay for itself.
8. That old ML that I have been using, for God knows how long, it really acting finicky. The last thing I need is for it to blow up in my face. I can't imagine how much all those hospital bills would be.
9. You know honey, there is no way I want to invest money in the stock market and lose it all. I was thinking it might be worth while to invest in something more tangible, I don't know maybe fine art, gold or maybe even firearms? There are some really good deals out there, especially on old muzzleloaders. Maybe I'll check that out. I'm only thinking of our financial future.
10. What??? You didn't want a muzzle loader for Christmas???
11. Look what I picked up. It was a fantastic deal. Feel how smooth that stock is. It's almost a work of art. I mean, I can always take it back...
12. I really, really, REALLY need another gun. I don't know why but I think it's important in case that old one I have breaks. Some guys, most of the guys I know keep buying guns and don't even tell or ask their wives. But I don't want to be like the other guys and lie because we have always been open and honest with each other and I don't want to go behind your back. I've only wanted the best for you and I have been so lucky that you have only wanted the best for me. Well I don't need to have the best honey, because I have you and you are everything I ever wanted. But I found this gun, and while it's not the best which would make it very expensive, it still a really nice gun and at a fair price well below what Davy Crockett's or Danial Boone's guns are worth. Beside, I think you would like it as much as I do as you always appreciate nice things like that washing machine you always wanted.

There is no good excuse, but what works for me is "Baby, you deserve a new (insert her gift" and by the way, I was thinking I need a new rifle. Works every time as long as the finances will support it. Just flowers and a night on the town are not gonna cut it. This is experience talking.
