If your eyeballs and skills are up for it, you should have no problems extending that killing range to 50 yards with a conical.

I don't doubt it. Gonna order an Accurate mold and do some testing.

Kaido's conicals are based on Elmer Keith's cartridge bullets and have successfully taken down some tough game already. We know that Keith's bullets have taken ALL North American big game and even much of Africa's as far as I know.

His .36 cal conicals shoot just as accurate as round ball in my Belt Revolver and when I get the chance, I'll cast up some .44 cal 240 grain conicals and put them through the 5.5" and 8" Pietta Remmies.

This thread has gone in another direction, but back to the original question about the powder charge, I once observed a shooter who was loading his revolver with pyrodex pellets. His load of choice was two pellets in an as issue .44 Remington. Not many shots into the match we observed that his cardboard target backer was on fire. Postmortem decision was that one of his pellets was successfully launching both the ball and the other pellet down range. I don't know exactly how that relates to loose powder, but I don't imagine that the last several grains are adding much to the energy of the ball.

Got this data from another page. Looks like the more powder the merrier, in spite of that fireball. Of course you need a tight fitting ball, I use .454 exclusively. Check out how poorly the .451 shoots...150 fps slower from the same gun, same load. Pyrodex sure is hotter than that Goex, every time..

If anyone is looking for another black powder source for GOEX, Schuetzen, & Swiss, go to www.powderinc/ in Clarksville, AR. Been buying cases there for years. Cases are available in 5 lb, 10 lb, & 25 lb quantities. HazMat & shipping included in pound prices. You can mix brands to get best price on Swiss on 25 lb case.

They also have plenty of CCI caps that can fit inside the 5 lb & 10 lb case boxes.

For paper target accuracy, only, it's hard to beat 15 to 18 grains of Schuetzen black powder plus cream of wheat filler to bring ball up to top of cylinder on an 8" Uberti "Remington" barrel.

Can't help much with hunting loads. I do most of my hunting in the garage.

From every test I've read, and my own experience, Swiss fffg and Pyrodex P give very similar results. Almost identical.

777 is a little hotter than both. I don't use it since it won't go volume for volume, which complicates things.

Never seen or heard such myself.

I just despise cleaning all the brown pyrodex crud out of barrels after every gun purchase. As long as UPS and FEDEX are around, I'll always use GENUINE Black Powder!

The only way your going to see a difference is if you load for accuracy and pay attention to the smaller details required to find accuracy even with higher load charges.
If all that's being done is maxing out the cylinder while looking for stats on hitting power you won't see a difference.

Yeah check out any side by side comparison, Pyrodex and Swiss are both in the same ballpark with the same charge by volume. Very similar, although Swiss seems to have a very slight edge velocity wise
I know some people just love old fashioned plain powder and I do too. I totally understand. But I use mostly Pyrodex. I feel its safer to store in my home and it just shoots great!
That being said I'm awaiting a shipment of Olde Eynsford to try out. :)
