This is a really nice antique .42 halfstock sporting rifle. It has a 32” octagon barrel with a seven groove mostly bright bore showing some scattered very mild oxidation. The barrel retains about 70% original plum-brown finish with moderate thinning to a gray-brown patina. The rear of the barrel is marked PARKER. The patent breech is a smoky case-hardened patina. The lockplate retains a healthy amount of nice fire blue toning to a nice pewter straw along the back of the plate and hammer. It has some light foliate motifs and crisply marked WARREN & STEELE / ALBANY. The rifle is equipped with pewter nosecap, dual iron ramrod thimbles on full-length under-rib. The remaining hardware is German silver consisting of the tailpipe, hexagonal wedge escutcheons, triggerguard, crescent buttplate with toe plate, oval patchbox, attractive decorative foliate lock screw escutcheon, and a small buck silhouette inlay on the scant cheekpiece. The buttplate shows a number of shallow casting flaws throughout but they are relatively unobtrusive. The checkered walnut stock remains in very good plus condition retaining a healthy amount of original varnish. It has the scattered light dings and handling marks, a small crack present at the lock screw. Sights consist of a fine v-notch rear sight and German silver blade front. There is a vacant hole at the upper tang for a lollipop-style sight. The brass-tipped hickory ramrod with worm end appears to be original. The single trigger and lock seem to function as they should. This rifle is range ready and a stunner to boot. $1000 Shipped.
