Looking for information on N Kendall made guns? Specifically ones marked "Smith's Improved patent Stud Lock"
would like to see pictures of the internals and a focus on what makes it a "stud Lock"? also would like to see
whats inside one of the underhammers that have the double set triggers..

I saw a Kendall for sale on gunbroker a while back, it was marked with the Smith's stud lock but I failed to save any pictures from it.

My Bud Marlow has that book and checked for me.. There is NO mention of the Smith's patent??

Oh interesting. I've looked at the Kendall design myself. Will be interested in if anyone has more information on them.

I recently pick up the Logan book and finished reading it last night. It does talk about Kendall some but your right in that there is nothing specific to the stud lock. There is a drawing of a Kendall lock though. There is also a drawing of a modern (1950s) double trigger action made by a man of the name Woody.

For 30 bucks the book is for sure worth picking up.

I found this old topic while doing a "rainy day" search for another gun ..... All the earlier posted responses are correct, with Logan's book being the best general source on under hammers. Note that I have yet to see a percussion period underhammer gun with set triggers. For your convenience, I've attached the image of the contemporary double set trigger in Logan's book. Additionally, here is the stampings from my Kendall underhammer gun. For much more detail on Kendall and his operation, you can check out the on-line articles in AMERICAN MACHINIST from 1923 Vol.59 in issues No.15 and 16. The author alludes to a "William B. Smith, a former Kendall contractor"who may be the Smith in the stud patent. Here's a look at the Kendall internals

The trigger appears to be farther rear ward than the picture above.

And I also found one with set triggers.
