Somewhere around the proof marks that are marked on the guns frame you will see a little square or rectangular box with the letters in it.

For those who don't know, this dating code only applies to black powder guns made in Italy.

On mine there is "PN" below the serial number and a "CR" on the right side of the frame. None of these correspond to the data in the date list though. Maybe my list is wrong. Where are the proof marks typically?

I recently bought a new 1860 Pietta. It has CB so since your list only goes to 2005 I assume yours or mine was made in 2006 and the other in 2007?

I think BU decodes to 2004 (you have BZ for both 2004 & 2005), CA for 2006 and CB for 2007. Recently bought a Uberti Walker with a CB date code, so I'm pretty sure about those last two codes.

I suspect your CR is really a poor stamping of CB, which would be 2007. Is it inside a square?

The date code on my new Walker is on the right side of the frame below the cylinder, just ahead of the two proof marks (PN under a 5 pointed star inside a garland and a coat of arms under the same star and garland).

This is not to correct but...
according to my list
2004 = BU
2005 = BZ
2006 = CA
2007 = CB

Isn't that what I said? :confused:

Found it, and yes, it inside a square.

CB=2007

Has the Uberti Whitneyville been manufactured for a long time?

Which Dragoon models came along first and when were they first manufactured?

If I recall rightly the first revolver of the Dragoon family of pistols made by Uberti was the Walker, in the 1960s. For detailed info, suggest you check back with Suzanne Webb of Uberti in Gardone [email protected]
In another context she recently confirmed that Uberti started manufacturing the Colt M 1860 Army in April 1963.

Sir, thank you. Excellent information.

On mine there is "PN" below the serial number
That is not the date code, that is one of the Italion govt proof marks. The pn stands for pulvera negra(sp?) which of course, is Italian for black powder.

I purchased a navy arms 1861 revolver made by Uberti with the shoulder stock today. Saw it in the pawnshop and they said it was not working so they were only asking $300. Turned out. The only thing wrong was a broke trigger and bolt spring, which I already had one at home. I offered $270 and they took it. Got home and installed the new spring. Works perfectly! I noticed on the side of the frame there is an XX7 is that the date code? And does that mean 1964? Would appreciate any help thank you.

Blow up the photo of the Army in post #16 and you will see the code. On this gun it is not in a box but the code is XX7 at the right front of the frame however there is no XX7code listed so possibly the 7 is a bad stamp.
