I have a walker that I took the finish off the cylinder 30 years ago, but I don't remember clearly why lol. Weren't they originally shipped like that or something?

Originally the Walkers had no finish on the cylinder because Sam Colt had to rush them into service with the US Mounted Rifles and to the Texas Rangers. The Italians reintroduced the Walker and believed that buyers would not understand why the cylinder was not blued with the rest of the gun so all modern Walkers come with blued cylinders. Ironically, In the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales, his cylinders are blued which is not historically accurate. However Gus McCrae from Lonesome Dove had a Walker with the cylinder unblued per the originals.
