I finally got rid of the horrible red glassy finish on my 1860 Army grips. I stripped the wood and used Watco Danish Oil (dark walnut) and then 5 or 6 coats of Tru Oil. After completely dry I used 0000 steel wool to reduce the shine to a point that suited me. The holster in the photo is a reproduction Civil War US Navy pistol frog. I used to want to portray a sailor assigned to the Mississippi River Squadron. Getting too old for that but I like the equipment.
