shooting a pen raised bird that is being driven by other clowns is about as sporting as shooting a farmers chicken as his wife is shaking a coffee can full of feed....you sir are more confused then an Amish electrician.... i think the wild turkey has a slight edge over you in brain size....

So is that a common practise to shoot the famers chickens if you do not bag a turkey both would be a sporting bird . People like you can only come back with personal remarks because they themselves do not know what they are talk about This I do know that my brain concerning shooting and guns is that I have forgotten more than a person like you will ever know so cut out personal remarks and talk turkey

the .75 was built by Roy Stroh and i have a light weight .62 coming from him shortly. opening day this year will find me carring a fine .75 club butt fowler made by Mike Keller with a spectacular brass dog leg lock he made himself!

Well, my youth hunter scored this morning!! We hunted yesterday from daylight til noon, in nonstop rain. Today dawned bright and sunny, and we had 2 birds gobbling on the roost, about 150 yds from us! Jefferson scored on a big Tom at 20 yds with his modern 20 ga, so I won’t share pics for Feltwad to enjoy lol!!!
A week from tomorrow, I’ll be out after my own with my flintlock!

A fellow member on the high road posted today that his buddy got attacked by a coyote, so everyone say safe and watch your back.
Close friend and his two small grandkids were in a blind calling One morning. He had an extra cup of coffee that morning and had to relieve himself. He got out of the blind and walked into shelter belt. He zipped up and turned around just in time to see a coyote scooting on its belly up to the blind. He yelled and it ran off. Kids never saw a thing.

I’ve hunted wild pheasant in South Dakota and had so much fun. It was a driven hunt as described by an earlier poster, in a corn field with blockers at the end as walkers move toward the blockers through the field. As the walkers get closer to the end of the field the pheasant start to flush. All parties call out the sex of the bird because hens aren’t legal to shoot. Like,”hen hen hen ROOOSTERRRR!” And whoever has the best shot goes. It was great sport loved being out with family and the dogs. The pheasant are beautiful and great to eat. There’s a big family feast after cleaning the birds.

Turkey hunting is a different sport, I can actually see Feltwads point because of the brutality of turkey hunting. I acknowledge using an Excalibur or X-out is more sporting from a fair chase standpoint, but I personally find it distasteful. When you get down to it though, hunting is fairly brutal no matter how you slice it and ritual makes it culturally less gruesome. Unless you’ve lived a particular culture, you can’t judge harshly. I can say for certain that wild turkey, especially pressured birds on public land are a very worthy game and I would encourage any hunter to give it a try. It is both very challenging and a lot of fun.
