Is this any different than the slab bacon and hams sold down around Smithfield VA in the brown cloth sacks? Loved that stuff for seasoning other dishes I was cooking. Have not seen it in almost 20 years. It did have a slightly musty quality about it, but it kept for ever without being refrigerated. Great stuff for making red eye gravy for on grits

Sounds similar. But I couldn't be positive.
