170 lb. I bought a 5 pound ball and added a small ball to the order in the belief that this would give me enough for three projects, plus a little extra for experimentation if I was careful- as it turned out, I was able to get a whole tumpline out of that little ball with room to spare, so for now that whole 5 pound ball, 1100 feet, sits untouched in my closet.

Another approach might be to use 2mm twine, with 24 strands. The brow-band could be made with 24 separate warp cords, and then the cords could be twisted together in groups of three to form eight strands, which could then be finger-woven for the straps and ties. That is probably a more authentic approach, but more difficult for a first attempt.
