So I've been thinking about making a cannon on a naval carriage. I've noticed that both affordable barrels have seamless steel liners that are required to be drilled. Is it advisable to put in a touch hole liner? If so, can I buy one or must I make it?

i visited via phone to HERN CANNONS. HE SAID MOST OF THE PEOPLE JUST DRILL A HOLE AND THATS ALL..

but if you are in a civil war group, they require all cannons to be vent lined. So I don't know what I will do yet. on mine. I can't find any info on the process

The vent liner is for sleeved barrels because moisture and corrosion can build up between the sleeve and the barrel metal and over a long time cause a weak spot. It takes time to get that bad but csn happen. The idea of the liner is to prevent that.

You can do without but just know that could come up.

If your tube is solid steel or bronze you dont need one because there is no nooks or crannies between your barrel metal and steel liner.
